telkom will be invincible for quite some time still. until 2007 if i'm not mistaken. in the broadband arena, at least.

Oh my soul! That is hilarious!

Anyway, I hate Telkom just as much as anyone, and I am trying to be positive, but facing the facts:

Telkom has made a huge profit, so, when the SNO comes out, and they still wont be offering broadband, of course I will switch once they do, but telkom will be able to lower the costs emmensely because of their profit. The SNO won't stand a chance, and I will switch, you bet ya!

Ok....Heres my situation.

My family is the type of family that dont do stuff like save for a month to get whatever at a later stage. Seeing that my house has just had renovations theres no way my dad would give me even R300 to get a modem.

He said he will pay installation.....:cool:

OK so this would be the costs.

R270 line rental - 192 kbps
R200 - 2 gig account. will maybe upgrade to 3 gig later.
R80 - normal line rental.

= R550..... + my house and cell calls which never exceed R200.Last months non internet calls was R100 rand.....

Max Total of R750. Now if i told my dad this he would agree.
What pisses him off is when the bills R650 one month and R850 the next.
Adsl is fixed which is the best bout it....

NOW - With the contract..... if i sign a contract with Telkom, i do get to upgrade etc dont I??? I mean im starting with 192.... i dont have to sit with 192 for 2 years do I? The contract mainly means i will use adsl with TELKOM and TELKOM only for the next 2 years.???

And im looking forward 2 it.... cauz i see sum Telkom Internet users dont get capped.LOL.:p

IM NOT A CHEAP SKATE.... my studies are a bitch and i dont want to moan to my parents for MY BENEFIT!!!! thats why i cant just splash on a modem.

I think there are too many users that are in good jobs and making a decent living.... whats R500????

If you hate Telkom so much buy me a modem lol. if only....

yip, you can definately upgrade. it really isn't as bad as people make it out to be - IF you stick with it for two years.

if you sign the contract and cancel, you will regret it. but hey, why did you sign in the beginning then?

and just to make it QUITE clear.. contract subscribers pay the exact same amount as non-contract subscribers. even if the price changes. the modem is 100% free. contract subscribers are 'supporting the devil' just as much as non-contract subscribers. (a truely retarded concept when you can't get dsl from anyone else).

i hope that is crystal clear now :)

My friends Telkom adsl is really awesome. No hassles.
Its so damn scary going from dialup to adsl speeds. Mp3's in under 2 mins!!!

another question. If i had to get installed and set up on say the ' 20 of March' for example.... wud they give you the gigs for those 10 or so days?

Get the self-install option!

All the techie any ways does, is connect a micro-filter to the cable that the normal telephone uses, and he might plug in your modem.

Then you can spend that R400 on a modem and get ADSL without getting stuck in any contracts! ;)

get a cybersmart ADSL account, R100 for 3GB if you're on 192: http://www.cybersmart.co.za/

Then you save another R100 a month! ;)
 
I hear self install is a MYTH!?!?!?

i dont know what filter thingy ma bobs whatits go where. Im not a Techie...

install is R202 now on the contract i think.

he stated he wants a telkom 2GB account for about R200 so that he can hopefully get around 20GB per month ;)

Nowhere on telkom's website do they mention anything bout the installation being cheaper if you get a contract, unless you can maybe point it out for me. Anyways why pay any installation fee if you dont have to.

there is a lot about their ADSL service that they don't mention on their site ;)
