Thanks ppedrick wow a lot of info. I see that some resellers are selling semi-shaped uncapped from IS, is this possible ?
Well at the moment mweb is not looking like they are interested in helping with the slow speeds, so I might have to look at IS
If anyone has any more info or help on what service is best including speeds would be great.
Thanks
Afrihost latency is a bit hectic at the moment but they admitted to having a problem and they said they are busy looking into it. I might cancel my uncapped just for a short while until the good latencies are back in gear..
Peter Pedrick, what is the current expectancy of performance and speed currently ? i thought i got better speeds trying out age of conan's updater around 2 am this morning.
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wish I could tell you Necuno.
Some people are over the moon and have been constantly over 50% line speed since they took up the product. Others, are desperate because the speeds fluxuate from 5-50%... We really can't explain it, beyond supposing the usual Telkom copper line, DSLAM, ESR, ATM, IPC issues - or the network setup after IPC with IS.
We've tried mapping out people's locations but we don't yet have the customer base to do this... I'm not sure if even MWeb have it. I tried to get IS interested and involved in going this but noone got back to me and you can be sure that Telkom wouldn't even acknowledge my existence.
So, all I can say is expect it to be about 30% of line speed for the download protocols and systems e.g. RapidShare on HTTP - and 50% on FTP and similar and 80% on Email and web. Local latency of around 80ms-200ms and Europe around 200-500ms.
However, I really wish that I could confirm this but it changes for different people at different times and the fluxuations are unpredictable. Although, thanks to some of you guys, we've noticed that there are destinct changes at 7am, 7pm and midnight... however, we can't confirm that either as some of our test accounts don't show that!
Bloody frustrating...
Maybe other people can feedback beter on this...?
Thanks for the help
So Peter as I understand it Imagine is working towards reselling mweb and then being the technical support for this product. Would that mean that imagines techs have direct control of those accounts or will it still be up to mweb to troubleshoot ?
Sorry for all the questions just trying to feed the old grey matter with as much info to make a concise decision on which package as well as reseller to go with.
