Immigrating to the UK

Has anyone successfully claimed compensation for a canceled flight?

From what I can see I might be entitled to £350 https://www.easyjet.com/en/terms-and-conditions/notice-of-rights-for-flight-delays-and-cancellations. Stuck in Italy, I suppose life can be worse lol

I've claimed EU 261 compensation around 10 times in the past, as I have exceptionally bad luck with flights being cancelled or delayed. I recently claimed €275 for them losing my son's bag for a few days.

You can try claim directly from the airline (who will make excuses etc, so it can be tough). Or you can use a 3rd party like airhelp who take a big commission. It could take a few months though but is worth doing.

I usually fight with the airlines, and if they reject I use a 3rd party who haven't failed me once. I follow this up with a FU email to the airline employee who rejected the initial claim.

I've kept mine open with some cash in there for just in case. There are a few 'bills' going off that I want to keep going for now (eg. xbox game pass). I've also kept it for SARS this year just in case there is something. Ill probably close them in the next year or so.

I need to claim for delayed luggage for my kid who arrived at Heathrow without any checked baggage. The annoying thing is the bag arrived at LHR on the next flight. less than an hour later, but took more than 48 hours to make the trip to Kent.

The bag went from distribution centre to distribution centre.

You guys who moved over; any of you keep your SA banking accounts open? I’m considering keeping my FNB account open and closing my Investec account as it’s more expensive.
Still got my FNB account open. Handy for local file transfers, going to SA and spending etc.

Summer is finally here, lads.

I kept my bank account open until I was done with efiling (ie. nothing significant to declare since I had nothing except my RA in South Africa for the entire financial year).

Doing the same in your case, I would keep it open until my efiling was completed next year which means about October 2025 at least.

Keep the Investec one. You don't want to deal with an FNB numb-nutts over the phone who wants you to come into a branch to close your account and cannot grasp you're not in the country anymore.

Once you have your foreign bank account and card setup you can ask Investec to convert your account to "online only".
- you'll pay much less for it per month
- you'll lose access to your card though

And then once you are ready you tell your Investec guy "thanks, please close the account" and that's that.

I forget sometimes you have good advice. (Except when it comes to cars. :p )

Thanks dude.

Summer arrived here in northern Germany this weekend .. been pretty much a non-summer in the last month and a bit.

You know it’s summer proper when the topless bears are in the grocer isles.

Remember the first time I witnessed it: gets slightly warm in the UK, and there are people in the parks shirtless with their suit trousers on just lying on the grass.

Summer is most welcome to bugger right off. Was at the gym just before 4am today and it was already yucky and way too light

I think the light is the most annoying bit actually. Brain still can’t figure out that it’s not actually 5PM, it’s 8PM, and we still haven’t had dinner.
