Inbound Connections / Unrestricted APN (Now Testing!)

Do you want/need an APN that allows connections initiated from outside the APN?

What we did once - but not on cellc - we asked the other party to vpn (PPTP) in to the office, we then determined the IP address allocated to that PC, then VNC/RDP'd to that IP. Worked well :D

I think if you can initiate a PPTP VPN connection from your house to your work, then you'll be able to connect from your work to your home PC (only the home PC though).

Another way - install openVPN, and read the manual on how to get it to listen on any UDP port you want. Haven't tested it yet.

Hey Libs...

Neither of those very good suggestions are possible for me unfortunately, due to a very restrictive corporate firewall.... I've been utilising SSH tunnels for years and know a lot of the tricks which can be used but I've run into a dead end at the moment.

I am hoping that Ron from CellC can comment on the issue.

Not sure about MTN, as I don't have one from them yet, was going to go see them this morning but time ran out ... , applied for my Vodacom one tho ... , said it should take 24hrs before it came thru ... , dunno that they work Sundays, but will see ...

Soonest chance I get, I will drop buy MTN and ask them ... , but a few posts I have seen suggest they do have ...

Seems it is not an over the counter option, was told to call 173 for a pre-paid card, but when I asked someone who works for MTN, I was given an contact to call in regard to an unrestricted APN - will do tomorrow ... , if I remember, no, let me make that a reminder on my BlackBerry ...

They had an 'MTNVPN', but as far as I know that wasn't completely open like Vodacom's 'unrestricted'.

Will hear what the MTN chappie has to say tomorrow, as I don't think, a MTNVPN thingy is going to help me much ... , especially if it is what I assume it is ...

I bought my Cell C data package on Tuesday!

If only I had seen this thread earlier... :wtf:

So what is our options if they don't provide us with an unrestricted APN?
(We force them to!!!)

I suppose i can tell my server to VPN to my work's network... :)
 
I dont think they have an APN assigned as yet.
There have been no indication from them of one being assigned (I could be wrong).
But maybe with the new system upgrades it is a posiblity.
Cell_C / Ron / Lars could maybe answer.

Would be great if we can have ports unblocked, at the moment can't even RDP (port 3389) into my home machine. Needed to pick up my electronic signature for documentation - had to wait until after work :-(

Seems only Vodacom have this facility, pity ... , MTN can load a max of 2 numbers on MTNVPN ... , which in my situation is not really helpful, running an extra machine, to obtain "open" access is to be avoided ... , (not practical nor desirable)
 
Cell C does offer inbound connects. i have managed to confirm this. The reason it has taken this long to get a response is because no one can identify what the proceedure is in order to apply for it. This is a situation that is being looked into and will hopefully be answered within the next few days.

Thank you...I'm off to the shops to get myself a woooooosh then. CellC is the only operator with 3G coverage where I stay.
