Inbound Connections / Unrestricted APN (Now Testing!)

Do you want/need an APN that allows connections initiated from outside the APN?

21Mbps Speed Stick Unrestricted APN

Hi
Vodacom has Unrestricted APN.
Does any one know if Cell C offers this service.
Would like to know as I'm hosting my own website and must have Unrestricted APN otherwise I can not get Cell C.
Regards

You're hosting your own website on your pc? Why not get a real host, they are dirt cheap and a ton more reliable.

There is already a thread about unrestricted apn in cell c forum. Think it's even a sticky.

ror0r, I know my hosting options thanks.
The_Librarian thanks for the link.

Cell.C-Guru Let me put it to Cell C this way.
Vodacom cost R389 for 2.3gig = R169.13/gig which I need to top-up almost every 20 days.
Cell C R2999 5gig package works out to R249 per month and R49/gig.
It should be a no brainier which one I should go for, yes.
But wait, Vodacom WINS because of Unrestricted APN.
I think Cell C is loosing out on a lot of Customers who would gladly go spend R2999/R1499 at Cell C if they could get Unrestricted APN.
I need to buy 2 x 5gig R2999 packages but will be waiting for Unrestricted APN before I do so.
In the Meantime, and I hate to say this, but Vodacom Wins and hopefully everyone at Cell C can quickly change this.
Thanks for Reading.

I agree with you nolimits.
I moved from Vodacom to CellC recently but am thinking it was a mistake, was even thinking of getting another contract for my office but not anymore. I've been telling all my clients to move to CellC for the internet packages but if they are not willing to provide professional services then what is the point.
I think they can make more money from basic users who only surf the web and download mail.
Hence why it isn't important right now for unrestricted apn.

@nolimits I agree with you whole-heartedly. I still primarily use an adsl line and have to wait, sometimes if i'm travelling, as i am unable to do remote support due to the Cell C APN. The major issue that cell c is having at the moment with regard to disconnections and slow speeds, etc, has forced cell c to put this on hold till they has sorted out most of these issues. I would (personally speaking) prefer this to be a priority but they need to ensure they offer support for existing problems before the start adding services.

Would love to have CellC on site in Pretoria, but due to the restrictive APN, have to go to either 8ta or Vodacom. Bleh.

Hope the other issues is resolved soon. I'm more than willing to be one of the first guinea pigs :D

Thanks Noted,
Is there a wild guess on time frame from cell c side on how long it will take to sort out disconnecting problems.
Obviously disconnecting all the time is not ideal for Unrestricted APN.

Time frame... lemme take a wild guess. Next 6 months maybe.
They have too much problems & only a few people who know what they doing, so will take some time.

This is wierd. I had a completely open NAT on My Xbox and PS3 when I got my 5gb Wooosh stick at the beginning of the year. Since the last network crash, my NAT is moderate. This makes Live and PSN gaming a chore. I think this shows there must have been unrestricted APN at some point in the past. So, please Cell C, give us open APN, so we can game in peace!

Return the Cell C Whoosh?

I only established that Cell C does not offer incoming access to ports in the weeks after I purchased the products - after long hours holding for the support call centre team, btw, it was this forum that alerted me to it. However, by that point in time, the 7 day return policy had passed.

I was hoping to return the Speedstick for a refund, as I felt that Cell C is advertising full internet connectivity, but only offers one way, outgoing internet connections.
This is in contrast to other ISPs (I have had both iBurst and Cybersmart),
and even Vodacom, who offers an "unrestricted APN", that all offer
proper, dual direction, internet connectivity. i.e. Cell C is advertising/selling a service it doesn't really fully provide, and it doesn't notify customers of restrictions on usage.

I even escalated this to head office (waited in the customer services area for ages), where I do not receive responses despite numerous follow ups.

Cell C rep: any thoughts on this?

needed it for online gaming...

pity... here comes yet ANOTHER, 3rd, refund! Thanks goodness I am still in my 7 days refund period.

Cell C, you guys obviously STILL has a lot of issues to resolve... In this case, Black is a bitter sweet - I'd rather turn Red again. Red works for me. Maybe see you again in... erm... a few years I suppose.

yip, also works fine for me when playing with the "outside world", but you wont be able to join a friend's party or vice versa... Or, you wont be able to do video calling etc. as well.

got my vodacom hooked back up in the wireless router, and everything (sigh) back to normal...

CellC bag with Modem ready to go back tomorrow.

RED Unrestricted getting cheaper

Guys I believe Vodacom has finally seen the light - slowly more value for money offers will be introduced like the 2GB + 2GB night owl. I believe it's only a matter of time before data bundle tariffs all together will be slashed.

No longer necessary to wait for Cell C and their never coming inbound connections.

using netgear router did all the port forwarding etc was open nat now moderate, the only way for me to sign in now is open internet browser on PS3 and then log into PSN network

So you open the web browser and then does it ask you to sign in or do you go back into the main menu and sign in... Sorry if this is a dumb question but I've been having trouble cause I jus can't seem to sign into psn through my router.. Tried everything I can think of. Using a tp-link, internet an ip are good but I jus can't sign in.
