Apparently Cell C has run out of public up addresses so we do not have the open NAT anymore. Rumour has it we will be able to apply for unrestricted APN in September.

This sucks big time cos i expressly bought this service to play xbox online.
Now 90% of the time Halo Reach wont work, and you can forget about joining friends parties.
This cell c is so borked and im fed up now, Its one problem after another. Whats the point of having decent speeds if you cannot use it for what was intended?
I for one will not renew my contract when it finishes.
 
Access home server when I have only CellC 3G access at home

Don't have ADSL at home. Have a CellC 3G Speedstick with 5GB package. Would like to be able to VNC from my iPad (also 3G of course) to the home PC. In a previous life (with ADSL) that was fairly simple. Can't seem to get it right with CellC. Stuck with TeamViewer et al, so response isn't great.

In case you think I'm a total idiot, I've done the whole DYNDNS setup, tested the VNC setup, etc.

1. Is it possible to set up a VNC connection to a home PC when it is using a Speedstick to connect to the Net?

2. If it is possible, um, how?

It should be possible. Have you got the home PC's IP address? Remember that it's a dynamic IP address ie it's different with every connect. Once you have the right IP you should be able to connect pretty easily.

What VNC server are you running on the PC, and what app are you using on the iPad?

EDIT: Missed the bit on TeamViewer. Are you using the TeamViewer server on PC and viewer on the iPad?

EDIT2: Read up on DynDNS - wasn't aware of them. Seems pretty nifty. Anyway, have you tried testing the VNC functionality by connecting from the iPad using the actual IP address of the PC?

So far I found these ports to be open from the outside world of cellc:

tcp port 22 (ssh)
tcp port 25 (smtp)
tcp port 53 (dns)
tcp port 80 (http)
tcp port 110 (pop3)

what gets me is that tcp port 445 is closed from outside but open to internal clients of cellc. So I'm getting a lot of spam from windows clients/worms to try and connect to my port 445. So if cellc is trying to help me, their not because all their cellc infected clients are wasting my bandwidth. :confused:

I would then rather just live with an unrestricted apn. Or at least give me tcp port 443 access and I'll be happy for now. :D

but i am bringing it up all the time lol ;)
 
Tell Lars he needs to make a plan! asap!! Keep bugging him until he just gives in and makes a plan!! :D

Indeed - the ports were open for a while (I tested it after reading your post). However, it appears all ports are closed again.

Was it a trial period only? Indications of future developments?

Any news on timelines?
 
Cell C NAT - Strict

Hi

I currently connect via cell c to xbox live, i can connect to the EA servers and play fifa 11 online. But the Call of duty - black ops servers will not allow me to connect due to the NAT type set to strict. I have chatted to someone at Cell c and they told me they they cannot offer an unrestricted APN.

Problem here is that i cannot get ADSL because i am a tenant. Can any one from Cell C adivse if they are going to resolve this issue or do we have to go over to vodacom?
 
Please allow 443 :-/ I would like to use my Cell C sim as a failover when ADSL goes down so my client can still connect to his mail server. At the moment it seems I am going to have to do a PPTP link to another site and then forward traffic to the server which is such a huge mission for such a simple task.

Seeing as some ports are allowed in they might as well do all the important ones (443 would be one of those ;) )
 
i have to add my 2c in here as well and say i was convinced to go cell c before the end of this week, but now i'm seriously doubting it cause i won't be able to use my PS3 online effectively. i'm wondering if there's a list someone has started somewhere of online games that require open NAT ?
