Inbound Connections / Unrestricted APN (Now Testing!)

Do you want/need an APN that allows connections initiated from outside the APN?

Unrestricted APN

Hi

Has anyone tested if Cell C's network allows inbound connections - or does one also need to use an unrestricted APN as with Vodacom?

thanks

inbound connections you probably have to open ports to allow for such thing to happen - I know some routers allow you to do this..

With Vodacom you need to apply for the unrestricted APN, so will probably be the same for Cell C, that's if they have it ready yet.

Our company wants to use them for our media networks, but they are not ready for private APN's yet, said we need to call them Q1 next year.

It's not about the router, it's about the ISP allowing the inbound connection. MTN and Vodacom's firewall block unsolicited inbound connections on the internet APN. Vodacom have a special unrestricted APN which allows unsolicited inbound connections (like one normally has with ADSL).

Just tried to SSH into a laptop connected on Cell C 3G, incoming port 22 appears to be blocked. :(

Cell_C, any chance of an 'unrestricted' APN please?

What IP address are you getting when connected to Cell C - public or private?

Ive tried logmein with cellc, works but keeps disconnecting / timing out. Same problem i have with irc.

posted on telltrevor complaint, dont know if they ever check there as there replies seem like templates.

Nope they never foned me on neither of my complaints thus far.
So what did they have to say?

Hi CellC?

I've also submitted a question to your web site, no reply het. I've been planning to get the Data promotion package to use for VOIP. I've been planning on purchasing a router that can do NAT and has a USB connector. The Intellinet router works great with Vodacom and MTN 3g using Hauwei modem. The router also has port forwarding and NAT capabilities.

For the VOIP SIP to work I will need TCP/UDP 5060 and UDP 10000-20000 opened. This is the standard ports used by SIP and RTP audio.

How will I go about getting this done with Cell C. Will this be possible for them at all??

this still is a problem, dont know if they working on it or not.
CellC a little progress report would be nice.

Unrestricted APN

I've also posted my questions on their website, although trevor the hawk is a silent hawk sleeping in his nest propably sitting on some egs.

I'm seeing incoming UDP connections, so it seems that only inbound TCP is blocked.

TCP inbound on port 53 is open, so if you are in a pinch you can remap a service to use that port.

Incoming connections for WOL?

Hi all,

I have my DynDNS set up and working (updating properly). Can't seem to wake my machine remotely though. Just wondering if incoming connections are blocked by default on Cell C? I think they used to be on Vodacom and you had to call to have them opened. Does the same apply to Cell C?

Thanx guys ;)
