Insurance geyser question

My geyser was replace a few years ago. They install a drip tray. The other day I notice this drip tray is lower than the exist pipe.
So on Sunday the geyser started to leak thru the ceiling. I went up and saw the tray was full, and the water went out over the tray. The tap at the geyser does not close the water , so I had to close the house supply.

Phone insurance, and at 12 there appointed plumber arrived, he notice that where the water outlet was, the fitting was not on completely. He took a new fitting from his bakkie, fit it, and say bye. I ask him about the tray and the tap. He said if the geyser leaked he would replace it completely, but it was only the wrong fitting on the pipe, which he corrected, I need to get them again to lift the tray and replace the tap at my cost.

There is not really pace to install geyser outside, and it is really easy to work on it where it is.
Question is simply, is the plumber correct.
I was hoping he will fix it all.

It keeps us in business.

You need to tell the insurance they installed the geyser and drip tray and they need to come back and do it properly.

Refuse to pay an XS...

That's the way, if the insurance installed before and now their plumber says it was done incorrectly, tell the insurance no excess and to check with the plumber about the report week says it was previoue work.

And what about your ceiling?
 
You should get and work through a competent broker, no it won't cost more but yes it'll make your life easier and sort out all your issues.

The plumber had a job to do and did it, he has no mandate to to other things unless you privately contract with him.

If you are at a insurer which only does direct clients - good luck. If fairly recent I would advise the insurer of the following.

1) You reserve the right to submit a claim for water damages, without a further excess, should they arise out of the water damage in this loss
2) The must send the old or a new contractor out at their cost as their appointed contractor did illegal work and I say that because it is a legal requirement for a drip tray and if not installed correctly this is actually construed as illegal.
3) As mentioned get a decent broker to fight these fights and all the other fights related to your insurance.
