Hey all,
I'm currently on holiday in the USA, at my brother's house. He has uncapped cable with comcast and pays about $60 for it. The speed?

I didn't think we were that behind now that we're heading for ADSL 8Mbps with telkom, but clearly even after the upgrade, we're still far behind ;/

in terms of ping... well no comment ;)
but as for speed, i bet his connection isn't the entry level. but still, ow

I moved to the US permanently in August and this is the line the I and my wife use. It is also with Comcast and uncapped. It costs us $100+- and includes cable TV. This is the outcome of the speed test ... http://www.speedtest.net/result/651792497.png

At $60, we're not too far behind, just the speed.

At $100 for both, that's not a bad price.
Telkom Media could've done something like that...

Pity its not available to everyone. My dad is stuck with satellite service that is slower and more expensive than my adsl here in SA.

Fair point this - the perception is that everyone in the US of A (and UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, All of Europe, etc) has very high speed uncapped internet access.

The availability of these high speed services are usually directly proportional to the population density of an area.

Well I don't know about that - lots of dense people at Telkom and we still have lousy speeds!:D

I used to be envoius of the US with their generous speeds and uncapped accounts. The litigation against people that use the Internet as I do has made me appreciate our shores. What is amazing is that they are now considering caps (still generous at rumored leves of around 250 Gigs) while we are moving away from caps (http://3.ly/cAp).

Thats nothing. I was on uncapped 100Mbit in Netherlands :) You get the same quite easily in Korea.
Thats what we need. Apparently Koreans/Japanese will be able to get Gigabit connections soon. (consumer level)

The U.S may have faster internet but would you really like to live there, remanants of Bush, The War, The size of the people(they should be classified as something else after they hit 130kg), the general stupidity of the nation "You from South Africa wow I've been there, I went to Nairobi" or "Why aren't you black?". The current economic situation etc etc etc

I think we can create a formula where the amount of activity (ie sport, socialising etc) people do is inversely proportionate to the speed of their internet.
