Internet Speed test varies using different Browsers

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this behavior. I performed speedtests on my fibre connection and depending on the internet browser i use i get different results some results shocking.

I used the Speedtest Microsoft store app and the Ookla CLI test and those seem to be the only applications proving an accurate result.

I have googled and it seems to be a known issue as i have seen other internet results reporting the same behavior.

Looking forward to everyone's thoughts / responses.

When doing Speedtests via the browser, there was one instance where I got a notification stating that downloading the app would be more accurate. Not sure why though.

downloaded the apps and the speeds were on par with what I expected from the line speed.

needless to say I almost cried when my speeds were varying between 100-300mbps on a gig line. With the apps downloaded everything went up to normal speeds

Thanks for the reply thank goodness i wasn't the only one. Know the feeling been all excited for the brand new shiny 1 GB line and boom......you get a speed of sub 500mbps hahahaha

I plug my ONT directly into the server i have running pfsense and there the speeds are more accurate.

I have learnt now CLI speed tests seem to be the most accurate.

The tests were rigged from the start.... this is nothing new.

Some tests use multi and some tests use single connection, so results will vary. ISP's also prioritise speedtest sites as well in traffic management and shaping.

Has anyone managed to access the Vumatel speed test on the shop.vumatel.co.za website recently?

When browsing to the website it doesnt give me the option to select the speedtest. The option is simply not there
