After reading some of the comments I just had to add my 2 cents worth. If the iPhone didn't innovate anything then why are there 200 million iOS devices on the market at the moment? In this case, I'd like to think that the numbers speak for themselves. The only reason we have so much competition with iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7 is because Apple released the iPhone. If it hadn't been released why would any company spend any money innovating new and exciting designs when the competition isn't doing anything spectacular? The iPhone gave MS and Blackberry (Though BB's platform is going stale very quickly and the mold is forming) a wake-up call they needed, and gave Google the idea to try something.
Why is it such a bad thing to copy a good idea onto your own platform? If MS released some new feature for WP7 and everybody else thought they won't add it on their platform because they're not going to copy someone else's idea we'd still be stuck in the stone age.
Still, for those doubters, do yourself a favour. Go into a cellphone shop, ask for a Samsung Galaxy S, a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and iPhone and an iPad. Wow! The interface looks identical!
Just because somebody else does it a certain way doesn't mean you can't (Unless I'm mistaken, the Galaxy S is the highest selling Android device ATM). At the end of the day, we, as consumers are getting better devices with awesome features because this exact competition exists.
In a perfect world, I'd love to have a WP7 and Android device too (BB will have to seriously step-up their game to impress me). They all have their pros and cons and I for one am glad I don't have to look at a Nokia for the next 6-12 months... sigh
