Samsung is gonna love this one :)

Total fail at pricing IMO

+1 how do they want to justify this $130 premium, if people can get imo a better tablet with better resolution for $199?
And this ipad 4 coming out after just 6 months, it seems planned and perceived obsolescence is their core business strategy with only the bottom line in mind and not the customers

One naturally thinks that a seven-inch screen would offer 70% of the benefits of a 10-inch screen. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. The screen measurements are diagonal, so that a seven-inch screen is only 45% as large as iPad's 10-inch screen. You heard me right; just 45% as large. - Steve Jobs

7" tablets are DOA - Steve Jobs

They're moving the annual launch date to before the December holidays rather than after it to capture holiday sales. Having it right after the holidays was always a dumb move and left many who had received old ipads as gifts rather disappointed.

It's not better. It's different.
You have deliberately left out that the iPad has more flash memory. Double the amount.
It's also a bigger screen
Also aluminum back

It's still a little more than I thought. I thought $299

I fail to understand how you work out better based on one presentation.

The market will decide. You won't.

So far the market has been backing iPads over everything.
Let see if it continues.
I don't know but I wouldn't bet against them

7" tablets have always been a better option in my book. 10" is just to big to actually take with you anywhere other than your couch.

Good to see apple FINALLY come to the party, but that price tag is just insane...

iPad Mini is an epic fail if you ask me. Specs are shoddy. I would have expected at least the same at the new iPad (3). Seems like they needed to get rid of old processors. And the price is just crazy.

You're probably not aware of this but Jobs is no longer in a position to run apple seeing as he died a little over a year ago.

The iPad Mini is obviously a no go product. The next iteration in 6-9 months will have retina display and possibly 128GB flash so don't buy unless you really need that sort of form factor.

ok, let me rephrase. I don't want to get into an apple vs. android debate. If the nexus, kindle fire HD or any other tablet for that matter, are better or not is not what my central point was. If that came across as such I apologise.
I just don't agree with these incremental upgrade schedules when it comes to hardware and the "buying for the sake of buying" mentality when it comes to gadgets.
What makes the ipad 4 compared to the ipad 3 so much better that it justifies a purchase? Sure one can argue that it has a new processor and an updated connector, but do they really make such a big difference? Will the Ipad 3 suddenly become an outdated dinosaur that is so sluggish in comparison that nothing will work on it any more and justify a $500+ upgrade after just 6 months? I personally don't think so, however I am probably in the minority with these views given that millions bought an iphone 5 although they owned the 4s.

I would still be perfectly happy now if I owned an Ipad 2 or an Iphone 4/4s and would probably keep then for a few years rather than just a few months until the new version comes out and off to the dump with the "old" device.
Those are just my views on this matter :P

I agree, IMO they rushed it out in order to try and capture a piece of all the action in that market segment.

Edit : Apple are well aware that if someone buys a Nexus 7 or Fire HD that they will never buy an Apple device, especially in view of the Nexus 10 and 10" Fire that will be out soon. They had to do damage control.
