iPad Mini 7.9-inch Apple tablet PC unveiled

Apple has never been one for responding to customers wants.

Should I do a few more quotes about how customers don't know what they want until Apple tells/shows them?

Those quotes are Apple's spin.
They use them to show how much they 'lead'
The quotes dont sit well with the techies that buy very little.

The truth is they employ market research and they look at what the competitors are bringing out.

Survey's suck, period. Esp when one ask you what your plan is, all kinds of factors come to mind, like who was asked where and what demographic. Making blanket statements like that article without proper investigation and follow up research is worth less than the bandwidth used to read it.

Using above "survey" I can say that most people prefer Android Tablets to iOS and Windows RT

That is a logical fallacy. Just because you can find flawed survey's, not all survey's are flawed.

Since you omitted the second sentence on the same line I'll repeat it for you "Apple has never been one for leaving money on the table."

If you can do so under the assumption that what Dolby wants ≠ does not necessarily equate to what people in general want then feel free.

In second thoughts don't - you're seemingly convinced Jobs is still running apple from the afterlife.

So HBee's instinct is better?

Surveys dont suck period.

Some surveys suck
You do have to dig deeper and consider the source, sample etc.
I will believe Washington Post, Daily Telegraph, certain trade magazine over Bobs Blog (made up name)

Nope, will still go not all data considered. That data might be US bais where the average income is higher, it could also limit people based on technical know how or other factors. My point being only true research can give you a proper indication. Asking a group of people what they "feel like doing" and say everybody is like that does not work in the real world is not on.

Edit: Want proper data, ask people in different countries based on the % of OS uptake and wait a said period then confirm if the did switch. Then come post your data, else I would go cool picture and that is it.

Well, you're welcome to haul out any surveys that show the opposite...

I join AlphaJohn's sentiment on surveys. However financials are a different matter.

Look no further than the 10% stock price plunge (did not happen to other vendors). Why was this reveail done yesterday ? because apple would like to prop up the share price before thursday's financial statements. I can only guess here that everybody that was thinking of getting the iphone5 from your survey did not - by a large margin.

I agree that financial figures are the most important thing. Share price however cant get looked at in a point in time
A single drop in the share price is difficult to analyse and flawed to look at in isolation.
Its entirely possible the market got overhyped and pushed the share price too high

The siimple reality is that the share price was under 400 a year ago.
Its more than 50% more than that now.

The share price could bounce back soon.
On its own it means very little

BTW - Samsung across the year also did well.

This is the only release on the show that got my attention. However, the lack of a retina display is a dealbreaker for me. Having had the iPad 2 and iPad 3 there is no way I can go back to a non-retina display. I will wait for the next release. Somewhere I heard it is never a good idea to buy the first iteration of an Apple product. I will heed the warning.

Well, Android tablets have failed so far. I suspect this is preempting Windows 8 tablets

I'm not convinced by the reasoning behind Apple releasing the iPad Mini. Didn't expect Apple to change their product philosophy to reflect the whims of society...

What you talking about?

All Asus Eee tabs have USB Host adapters, actually they have 2 on the keyboard docs or if you buy just the tablet there is a USB host adapter

I know cause I normally plug in an External mouse and my 1 TB USB drive when my Eee Pad is used on a desk.

ok, ok, should have been more specific - a USB port that does not require an adapter (like the Acer Iconia which I currently have) - it's just so convenient.

yoooh! no justification can convince me about these prices other than to say, they are meant to impress the shareholders. Period!

I think you've all got it wrong. Apple is a 10% company targeting upmarket clients; they don't want to target poor customers. They want people with money who can afford to pay for quality. Rich customers are prepared to pay on their app store and will buy the next version when it comes out. If someone can't afford their products, they are probably going to buy an Android because they're cheap and will complain about every little issue they have. Google can have them (is what I imagine Steve said).
