iPad Mini reviews roll-in

Really, that's how you're going to prove that
The Apple supporters used the retina display to "prove" why the iPads are better than the Android tablets. Now that Apple has shafted them with the mini's resolution, the tablets resolution is not important at all anymore.
he only says it looks great, nothing about it being the best... and it certainly isn't the view of all apple supporters, just one guy on a website. Most were disappointed with the screen.

Which forum member wrote that?

Where did I say forum users?

Who said anything about the resolution? I was talking exclusively about this wide-eyed 'everyone is bought by Apple' nonsense that's being spouted about on the thread. Personally I wouldn't get the iPad Mini purely because of the screen resolution being so poor. I don't know where you get this 'tablets(sic) resolution is not so important' thing from.

Agreed. I am not sure why so many people think the screen resolution proves anything.
Simple - They picked the lower iPad 2 resolution which allows all apps to work.

The debate about resolution can get a bit silly.
I had an iPad 2. I bought an iPad 3 and handed my iPad 2 to my wife
I was perfectly happy with the iPad 2.
Even after a week with the iPad 3 I did not recognise how much better the Retina was until I saw the iPad 2 again.

So iPad Retina owners will not buy an iPad Mini as well. Really how surprising. Why would you want both anyway?
iPad Mini will bring in people that have not made their tablet choice yet or it will be a good choice to buy for ones kids.
My kids have Touches. If I had to replace them today maybe I would consider the iPad Mini.

Many of the people on this board troll out the specs and make silly spec based comparisons and there summise how well the product will do.
The vast majority of buyers dont even look at the specs. They go into a shop and ask some questions about brands they have heard of. They fiddle a bit. Then they make a decision.

And I don't remember anyone saying the iPad mini was impressive.

The iPad mini was announced today as expected, and it is a super impressive piece of hardware
You asked me who said it was impressive. I showed you where a well known and respected tech website said it was impressive. Pity I couldn't find a website where all the Apple supporters say it is impressive but I guess I won't find a site like that because it isn't.

...and because not all apple supporters are saying it is impressive. Which is what you said, implying that we all blindly follow apple which is the entire reason we are arguing in the first place.

For the price I would have expected a higher res screen and A6 CPU although going with the lower res and accompanying CPU makes sense in that all apps are now compatible with the device.

I'm not sure how resolution effects app compatibility but surely an app modded for use on the iPhone 5 could work on an iPad mini sporting similar resolutions?

Okay, over looking the res and cpu where Apple have failed is in the pricing department. Even at $299 it would be expensive. I get that it's a premium brand but the iPad is competitively priced, the mini should be too.

$299 maximum with maybe a $70 premium for LTE model. $130 more for LTE is insane.

When are they coming to South Africa? I'm battling to decide between the iPad Mini, the Microsoft Surface and the Nexus 7...I'm leaning towards the Surface as its more productive than the other two

I haven't touched an iPad mini yet but since the mini has a higher pixel density I would expect the screen to be considerably clearer on the mini even without the retina spec.

I can relate to the differences between the iPad2 and third gen - once you've upgraded it's hard to go back. It never fails to amaze me how much better the 2x iPhone apps look on the retina iPads.

It is a bit steep, they could easily afford to take a minor profit knock (still a profit) to make it more competitive... but... they will probably still sell like crazy so what would the point have been in lowering the price.

I would recommend the new Atom based tablets, faster than Tegra 3, just as thin and light & battery life plus it has full Windows 8 not the gimped version.

It is damn pricey. In Apple's defense the build quality is awesome, the screen is laminated to the glass like the iPhone 5, the camera is decent and it's super thin and light. However the extra $$ for LTE and upgrading to 32/64gb is crazy expensive.

Nexus 10... 2560x1600 resolution
