iPad tethering

When you've found the legislation that specifically covers your allegations then there's something worthy of discussions until then it's a bit premature for you to dispense legal advice.Agreed.
You have asked which legislation. I replied, it is the same which bans SIM-locking. So you have everything you need from my side, just do your own research.

I'm backing off but because you refuse to read and understand. My point stands: not enabling tethering is not illegal.
To tell me this you need to attack my language skills, right? Not nice.
I heard your point and you didn't bring anything to support it.

Help a guy out and provide me with the legislation that bans SIM locking then. Surely that's not too much to ask?

Thanks grim:
Draft regulations to outlaw network locking of phones was published in gazette no 32803

Can't find anywhere if it was passed or not
This comes from an interesting thread, it seems MTN are still locking phones as of December 2012.
The Nokia X2-02 can take two SIMs and it seems MTN only locked the primary SIM to their network, perhaps so they can argue one can still use another operators' SIM as the secondary.
MTN - It's a dual sim phone. It has the promary sim under the battery and the secondary sim on the side of the phone. You can put anything in the side sim slot but as soon as you put anything but MTN in the primary sim slot it locks and asks for a restriction code.

Thanks. :)

"Can't find anywhere if it was passed or not" - Now if it hasn't been passed then it isn't law, correct?

All that legislation says is if you buy a phone from an operator, you must be free to use that phone independently of the operator. Ie it can't be network locked. Point 5 under freedom to purchase.

It does not say that a mobile network operator must enable all possible gsm functions on all devices.

Then I don't understand why 8ta block the entry phone to be used on their network exclusively even though it's huawei phone but for R50 phone I paid highly doubt they will unlock it and all the paperwork, emails, getting hold of the right person to get the unblocking code will be a mission.

What if I told you it was Apple who decided which functions to enable?

You are wrong. The operators request it.

Seriously, just google and you will see for yourself. Telstra in Aus, Vodafone in the UK had issues with tethering. Their client complaint on their forums and it took around 3 weeks to get tethering enabled. The posts are still on the net, and referenced in the local mybb discussions about tethering.

It's not Apple.

Well ****ing done on answering ONE query on the thread, one that is NOT the topic of the thread, and still getting it wrong.

They have a right to ignore problem they are unable to assist.

Personally I would focus on the cases I can really help and don't waste my time on useless dispute.
I'm glad you are not one of my service providers. You have no clue about customer service.

So is tethering useless or impossible?

It would be nice to know where 8ta stand.

So how is Apple's customer service?

This has all been discussed before. Please read through these threads and you'll see 8ta are not to blame here:

8ta boss Amith Maharaj said that there’s no indication yet from Apple when they would enable personal hotspot for users on South African networks.

“Unfortunately until Apple signs off on this, there is nothing much a user could do to enable this feature,” Maharaj said.

Ok... Sorry 8ta guy.

Damn. Apple really can make it hard to love them at times.

Going to give this hacked carrier setting a whirl this evening. Great to know there are options-thanks Morkhans, ginggs & co.
