Wireless power bank charging makes my 14 heat up and it’s not even 45 degrees outside yet.

iOS 17 + iCloud seem to be causing a lot of this with certain 3rd apps as well. I updated my WhatsApp the other day to the new version with this newer UI and it began doing a full backup after the update. My 15 Pro Max got pretty warm and I was wondering why until I checked WhatsApp and saw the backup taking place, it usually does these while plugged in and charging at night,shortly after the backup was complete the phone went back to being cool again.

Between iOS 17 and Meta, there seems to be a lot of crap going on in the background.
Years ago there was a similar issue to this with the Facebook app on Android along with Google Play Services, both would cause the phone to max out the CPU over certain period and then suddenly stop after a short period.
My observation is that iOS 17 seems to be less strict on how apps run in the background (even if Background App Refresh is off). I experienced the same thing when I updated my 13 Pro Max to iOS 17.

Hopefully iOS 17.2 brings an end to all of this, some apps, particularly the Meta apps like WhatsApp and Facebook seem to be running a little rampant, along with some first party iOS apps, I have seen people complain about heat after using Safari and Notes for a short time and that makes me suspect iCloud is also a culprit.

Well the current heatwave certainly isn't helping, my new iPhone 15 Pro has been quite warm at times when under load and when charging. The 12 Pro "hand me down" that I gave to my wife stopped charging one night due to heat as well.

Yeah, I agree. At this point I keep my phone in front of the vent of the car to keep it cool (actually basically ice cold).

I've also started charging from an older iPad 10w charger (with USB-A --> USB-C cable) to reduce fast-charge at night. I know the phones don't fast-charge the whole time (they start at 20w and eventually throttle down to only a couple of watts), but I figure it is going to be plugged in for the night so I don't really need speed. I still use a fast PD charger when I travel.

Man these cameras are huge. Very nice phone and camera system. Feels good in the hand. Decent upgrade from the 12 Pro. Waiting for one of the black ORRO cases from Takealot which seem top notch.

I dropped my 2 day old phone about 2 weeks ago. Fortunately I had one of those OPPO cases on. Zero damage. Phew!!

Recently updated mine to iOS 17.1.2, seems with each update the 15s are getting ever better!

Hmm… Had my first proper camera test today and it’s really poor when it comes to close-ups. iPhone 12 Pro (and X prior) had no problem focusing close. The 15 Pro’s minimum focus distance for the main lens is 200mm. Auto switches to Macro Mode using the wide f2.8 lens. And constantly switches between lenses…

Other than that it’s a superb camera system. But close-ups is really disappointing and will take time to get used to.

My 15 Pro camera is awful: lens constantly switch and it can’t focus. What gives?

I’ve given it a few days and can’t anymore. The camera in my 15 Pro switches lenses constantly and can’t focus on an object without switching, this never becoming clear. It’s worse than any phone I’ve had since the iPhone 6. Anyone else experiencing this?

I had a similar reaction when I first got the 14Pro -I eventually adjusted to the way it works and now I don't have issues with it.

It does take some time to adjust to it ie letting the phone decide on which lens to utilise.

Caveat : I don't do many macro photos and mostly noticed it when scanning barcodes - I eventually learnt to just keep the camera further back

Thanks. I’ve never had an issue focusing up close with an iPhone or the main lens on modern ones. So yeah, bummed about this and use it quite often. Being forced to use a low quality f2.8 lens is frustrating. Seems a new/clever way to innovate and make bucks.

I wonder if the iPhone 15 does this… Or maybe I need to look at a 13 Pro.

I am. Charged for 15 minutes now with phone on bed, and it was hot. Third party power adaptor and cable – shouldn’t make a difference? Also got hot yesterday taking lots of pics. Hotter than my 12 Pro. However it could also be due to phone case, though they’re both similar.

How's everyone's titanium finish holding up? I keep seeing reports of scratches on the titanium body. A lot of reports say the PDV coating is easily marred. I have none on mine (just over a month old), but obviously have a case on it. To be honest I noticed more subtle marks on my 14 Pro Max's stainless steel frame around the same time age wise - probably the gloss finish, but the titanium is holding up very well.

Still struggling with the camera system compared to my 12 Pro. I hate Macro Mode using the f2.8 wide, and miss my main lens being able to focus up close. f1.6 or f1.8 on the 12 Pro? Not only does it let more light in, but it’s sharper.

Portrait Mode is also very aggressive in a lack of what it focuses. Two people can be right behind one another, and the front person is blurred. It’s akin to shooting on a low f-stop prime lens with only a slice of focal point. Readjusting the f-stop barely helps.

My one year old had a swimming lesson this morning and Portrait Mode performance was poor compared to my wife’s 12 Pro.

I also seem to be struggling with what must be a shorter focal length (23mm?) of the main lens. 1x Portrait Mode is much further away than on my 12 Pro (around 30mm?). Meaning that I have to use my arms or feet to get closer to the subject.

The other fix is switching to 2x, but then the resolution and quality is much lower.

In a nutshell, only a small portion of the photos I take have improved. Significantly so, but I miss the all-round excellent camera system of my 12 Pro.
