iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c confirmed for SA

I guess end of November if we are lucky. This is in line with the normal cycles for iPhone rollouts in SA. I am so getting the iPhone 5s!!

If I'm not mistaken, October was also thrown around for the iPhone 5 but that proved to be false.

True - that was when Apple re-allocated stock to other Europe. The temptation of getting a 5s is high (friends are in both US and Europe during launch windows) - but I will rather wait - my BB10 is so awesome right now

The 5S sounds pretty awesome and I love the size. I am so sick of every manufacturer making phablets and not phones!! If only they could get Sony to help them make it water resistant to say 1m.... Then it would be pretty much the ultimate device.

End of October I heard...

Is this really the case? I am due for an upgrade, so was tempted to get the 5 now rather than wait till Dec for the 5S...but if released here end Oct, I can wait till then....what to do????

I was unimpressed with the new launch. I am an Apple fan, but to me it's just an iPhone 5 with a few decorations. The only cool features are the 64 bit and fingerprint scanner, and maybe the improvements to the camera. If I upgrade my 2 year old iPhone 4 software to iOS 7, I will have a fairly similar phone.
Think I will be going for a Samsung Note 3. I find the iPhone screen size has become too small for me - with the amount of internet/email/apps that we use now

If you ignore the massive performance difference amongst others...

I wonder when FNB will have the new phones.

New fingerprint tech(which has great potential),upgrade of internals, massive overhaul of software, improved camera,3 new colours...........personally very happy with the new offering.Pity I have to wait another year but at least I will have iOS 7 in a week, can't wait :)

Fingerprint tech is horrible. Imagine living in a cold climate where you have to wear gloves, lol.

The camera is the only upgrade thats worth while, but the rest...meh.

How is that any different from normal use of a touch screen phone?
lol, fair enough, didn't quite think that one through. Still doesn't change the fact that finger print technology sucks. Don't think I've seen a finger print scanner on a new laptop in a while.

True! Had fingerprint scanner on my Lenovo's for years, never bothered using it. But now Apple tells us its a necessity...

Haha. They are brainwashing the consumers again by stating that fingerprint scanners are cool. :p

The only thing that I want to know. Battery life. Real world battery life to be more precious.

Yeah, but it's a lot easier to use the fingerprint scanner on the iPhone than to type out a password. On a laptop, typing a password is much easier. Apple also discovered that only a very low percentage of users password locked their phones. Touch ID will increase that percentage greatly.

Water resistance would be great!

Personally, I think 4,3" to 4,7" is the sweet spot, and I think the iPhone 6 will be in that range.

I use the fingerprint scanner on my Lenovo all the time, it works perfectly and makes me not have to type out my long and complicated password all the time!

I actually think the fingerprint scanner is going to be one of the killer new features on the phone, especially since they seem to be (by reports so far) using a fairly good version - as many points, measuring subdermally and so on. When that is linked to your keychain it will make on-device purchases MUCH easier and faster. It will also improve security by making it easier for people to use and thus more likely to use which is good news.

we won't really know until people are able to start using it. I can't see Apple not having rigorously tested this as it is the kind of thing that could really hurt them if it does not work perfectly.

The fingerprint scanner is built into the home button. Once it has been programmed to recognize your fingerprint and activated your phone will be permanently locked until you touch the home button where it will then unlock. Very natural and intuitive integration of the feature (at least in theory).

Battery life has improved owing to a slightly bigger battery. I suspect the enhancements are more iOS 7 though. 25 hours longer standby time and about 2 hours up on general use IE 3g, browsing via LTE/wifi etc...
