I have a fingerprint reader on my laptop and it works fine. You get used to swiping the finger to unlock the PC. In the PC's case, you can always go back and use the normal user name and password which means that they can make the make the fingerprint reader stricter. I would hope that they do the same with the iPhone. That way a person can put in a long password as a backup and the reader could require better accuracy.

Of course Apple aren't the only company to get things right, and I don't think that is what he meant. But out of any tech company, they have by far the best track record of getting these things right. That is what he meant I suspect

we fight and argue over these little things because choosing the wrong phone is a decision made by a person, where the party you vote for is a decisions made by your parents, and their parents, and your friends and co workers, your vote does not really add much to the pool.

so choosing an iPhone is like saying "look at me I have no sense of what is good or right I buy products because they were the best 4 years ago and I can't let go"

and buying an android is like saying "I now have a reason to rag on iPhone users"

and buying a Blackberry is like saying " hold on I just sending this BBM quick....."

lastly buying a windows phone is saying "I am not getting into android vs apple and BB sucks I will just go over there and play by myself"
 
You know what would set the record straight, Apple coming out and saying out right that they cannot and will not try and extract the biometric data AND they cannot andwill not give any biometric data to ANYONE even if they could. So far all they've said is that it's safe because it's on the chip, no one can access it, it's not even a picture etc etc. That's not the point.

I think these crazy theories are swirling around because Apple just aren't saying that they cannot and will not give the info to ANYONE (NSA, FBI, government etc etc....)

True, but it is a moot point. Your fingerprints is the one thing that the government already has. The big outcry was over phone records, your gmail, facebook data etc, which was previously thought to be safe

I'm a big believer in privacy, and I don't fall for the ridiculous reasoning of "I'm not a criminal so who cares".
But, fingerprint are something that the NSA already has. There is nothing new here for them. The recent outcry is over the NSA having access to your search history, gmail, phone calls etc. That was all new and not known. Fingerprints? They've had those for ages

Your card payment details on your iTunes account, your phone number, your address book contacts, your emails, ... all tie an individual to a mobile device. Why does the inclusion of finger print data points make this so much worse for you?

With the new sensors you don’t have to move your finger, just press it against the reader. And like the sensor in the iPhone 5S, the sensors that will be in laptops and keyboards and other phones can detect the ridge and valley pattern of your fingerprint not from the layer of dead skin on the outside of your finger (which a fake finger can easily replicate), but from the living layer of skin under the surface of your finger, using an RF signal. That only works on a live finger; not one that’s been severed from your body.

This will protect you from thieves trying to chop off your finger when they mug you for your phone (assuming they’re tech-literate thieves, of course), as well as from people with fake fingers using the fingerprint they lifted from your phone screen.
