Yeah I'm definitely not planning on upgrading my iphone 5,not worth it,however the jump from 4s to 5 was significant so the jump from 4s to 5s would be very significant.A worthy upgrade for those with a iphone 4 or 4s IMO.

Not so sure about the iphone C. It's priced much higher than I would have expected.

Its ridiculously priced to be honest,I never saw that pricing coming.

While I agree with what your getting at the gap between s2 and s3 was HUGE,mainly because of the screen resolution.Since then however yes the s4 is better than the s3 but not ground breakingly so and most people with s3's will still be feeling comfortable with their devices.

The problem is everybody is waiting for the next big thing but what will it be or what can it be?Nobody really knows,yet we all expect it,we've become addicted to innovation in the tech space.

It's not ridiculously priced in relation to its specifications if you consider it's an iPhone5 in a different case. It's overpriced in relation to the 'cheap iPhone' people were hoping for.

Its is if you consider the normal trend for Apple is to give a proper metal clad iphone 5 for that price instead of a plastic device thats heavier and thicker.

And yes if it(iphone 5) was R8300 when it was launched then for an inferior plastic version of that same tech to sell for R7300 a full year later is actually quite expensive.

How would the 32 and 64 bit thing effect apps? Two versions in the store? Compatibility mode?

That's the thing. On contract, in SA for example, I would imagine the 5C will cost more or less what the 4S currently costs with the 5S costing what the 5 currently costs so from that perspective it's not a bad deal...

I don't believe the plastic finish is actually much of a downgrade to the current slate. Consider how well the 3G/3GS age in their respective plastic shells. A lot better than the current iPhone 5..
 
Quite a few people complain after new phones gets released as they were not "wow"ed by it.

Is it fair to expect these companies to do much more than release updated versions of their flagships? Over time the updates ads up and the phones evolve quite a bit from 2 or 3 generations ago.

I think Apple did well with this latest release. Only criticism I have is the lack of a large screen device and the high prices on the C model.
 
There's nothing wrong with the upgrade. Expectations are seldom met these days especially considering much of what was covered at the launch has already been in the public domain for the last couple of months.

In any event, the defining element for Apple is iOS 7. How iOS 7 is received will make or break them as far as I'm concerned...

EDIT: I would also love a 5" iPhone. I just gone from a 5 to a S4 and it's amazing how quickly one acclimatizes to a bigger handset. I've never understood the high demand for 5"+ smartphones and have always considered anything over 4.5" as totally impractical, cartoonish and comical to use but less than a month in and it's the 4" screens that are cartoonish and comical... sorry to say...

You're going to be rudely surprised when you see the contract pricing I'm guessing around R350-R40 for a basic iphone 5c package where as you can get a proper flagship metal clad iphone 5 right now between R399-R450 and this is for the last year so old tech.

Only the iphone 5 black had a problem with quality,the white ones hold up very well I must say even better than the old plastic iphones.I'm glad they changed the finish on the black 5s it was sorely needed.

Yea that sounds like exactly the type of scenario Apple would be happy to let through the App store.

I would love for there to be a 5" iPhone but I would not love to have one myself. I just went from a 4.3" phone back to the 4S and it was such a relief. But once you start getting past that 'must fit in one hand comfortably' concern, as a lot of people like you are doing, then bigger screen up to a certain point is better.

I don't even try use the S4 with one hand. It's not plausible or doable.

On the road it's a bit of a hassle. I haven't mastered and/or activated the plethora of smart features available to make using the phone while driving easier.

Whatsapp voice messages has been a huge revelation in this regard though.

Another thing which has been massively disappointing is sunlight legibility. It's shocking on the S4. Really bad!! Very surprised at that but mostly disappointed...

I honestly don't know much about architecture

But I know on a PC you need to download the relevant OS that you have - whether 32 or 64. So they'll have legacy 32 and newer 64 ... I know they have a plan around it - but what?

Yeah, I've been trying hard to use it on my iPad. Each beta gets fired up and then uninstalled a couple of hours later on account of the bugs and instability.

iOS 7 is a very different beast on an iPhone 5 compared to the pads.

Just installed the GM on my pad but now I can't backup to iTunes cause I need V11.1 2b which is only available for Mac (I'm pc user).

I mostly use it with one hand. But yeah, a smaller phone with a back cover with some friction would be more comfortable. Regardless I enjoy the 5" screen.
 
Must say, iOS 7 GM is running very nicely on iPad 4 now!! Considerably better than any previous beta before it.
 
This doesn't get me excited, but no matter what hardware Apple makes the biggest drawback is still being tied into the Apple ecosystem which I'll never go back to.

Just saw again with my mom's iPad (not my choice my dad got it for her). On Android I work the way I want to & use my phone for whatever I want to. On Apple I'm either restricted or forced to work the way some company decided was the best (i.e. max profit for them).

Aint nobody got time for that!
