I don't either. We have clearly seen in the last months through Snowden's revelations how we were blatantly lied to by US corporations who helped the NSA (and other US agencies) to spy on people. And even when the corporations didn't cooperate the US government still got the stuff they wanted. The NSA even infiltrated the organisations that set standards to act as trojans to insert back-doors for future spying. Now it is not a case of assuming that where the phone is there you are too, but knowing for sure.
 
Step 1: Get people to always carry a must-have-device on them.
Step 2: Link that device to their biometrics.

Open sesame.

But none of those are linked to my iTunes account, nor monitor my spending habits or have (potential) access to my emails and instant messages...

No. Google does not have your fingerprint... yet...

I don't know why everyone is fussed over their fingerprints now. As stated already - government already has all your fingerprints, So if the NSA, NIA, CIA, MI5 or who ever wanted your fingerprints, they'd go straight to home affairs.

Are you worried about Apple having it or the NSA? My response was more to the the people worrying about the NSA getting their biometric info.

It is fair to worry about Apple having it but easy to manage - don't give it to them if you don't trust them.

Not really worried, but if I were, it would be for both reasons. Any institution having the ability to tie biometric data to spending patterns and location history from a unified source, is not the most comfortable thought...

It is fair to worry about Apple having it but easy to manage - don't give it to them if you don't trust them.

Agreed. Suppose if one is truly paranoid, even that may not be enough.

I don't know how anyone doing something half-assedly counts for anything just because they got there first. But sure, they aren't the first ones to have this. They never even said they were. They could be the first to do it well though.

It's not about them having your fingerprint, it's about them being able to profile you to a far more definitive level than before, using a unified pool of collected data.

Honestly, I am not overly concerned about this, but it is a thought.

Ya, no icloud and no apple servers. They made it very clear that it wont be on APPLE servers. But that doesnt mean they won't upload it to some 3rd party (ie. NSA...)


Regardless, one secret court order later and ios7.1 will start secretly uploading those fingerprints somewhere.

We are actually in complete agreement and I guess we'll be able to continue this conversation when Samsung, or whoever, drop their first biometric phone. Tech like this has become opt-in and lets face it, most of us have done that already... Seems a little illogical for me to be up in arms about it well after that fact.

I use WMP quite happily to sort my library and then post fix it with another freeware app so that the album art looks right. Odd how WMP > iTunes for doing this but such is life. I store listen counts on last.fm which i write back to library on either so not too fussed.

I'm in the bootcamp where i use phone for mobility and size being small and if i want to do something more screen intensive there is a tablet for that. something that requires more data creation there is a notebook for and storage across devices handled by my microserver which is accessible remotely via vpn. Gaming.. well i guess pc but im thinking if i do start gaming again.. console.

It's funny how we moving back to devices with dedicated purposes rather than multi but i think its because dedicated ones are a but better at what they do for specific purposes.

I'm personally not a fan of huge phones/phablets but thats me.. people look odd talking on a tablet held to ear.. much like people taking pics at parties with tablets. :p

I agree with you. Which is why the fingerprint identification does not concern me...
