But this comment is something worth thinking about:

Basically the iDevices will be linked to an iTunes account during initial activation; this account / password will be required for all activations including DFU recovered ones. So without a working JB and activation bypass for iOS7; theft of iDevices should ultimately become less rewarding.

You really think the thieves here are gonna ask you what type of phone you have first? Now they will just take your thumb along with the phone

In that link I see the one image has the prices for the 5s:
16GB - $199
32GB - $299
64GB - $399

How do they justify $199 for the WHOLE phone (camera / screen / processor / keyboard / OS etc)... with 16GB of storage included... and then charge more than double that ($1 more than double), for the exact same hardware, but 48GB extra storage? No SD slot as well... pretty obvious what they play is.

It does not compute. Or perhaps it does, but how people don't make a big fuss over that I will never understand.

When looking at that, I enjoy my Lumia even more (which is difficult, because I like it quite a lot already).

Those are off-contract prices. iPhone 5S 16gb, 32gb, 64gb are $649, $749, $849 respectively.

I have the iPhone 4S. I use it for IM and reading eBooks. I find I would rather play games on my iPad, PC or console, so what I really want is some more screen real estate. Therefore, I'm jumping team Apple and going to Samsung. Looking forward to my Galaxy Note 3 when my contract expires end of the year.

Thanks for the correction. So it's still 48GB of storage for $200 or 16GB for $100? Sounds like a justified cost. How much is 16GB flash memory these days? R1000 at volume?

Single biggest improvement on Desktop is support for more than 4 GB of memory. Obviously still a couple of years away from that amount of RAM in phones...

But yeah, I must say in this case it just feels like something that will fragment the apps in the store.

With a 32-bit OS you realistically couldn't use more than 3GB of RAM. A 32-bit address bus allows for 4GB of RAM, but your computer maps some of your devices' memory locations onto the end of your memory space, and effectively over the last part of memory. On various computers using Windows I found that you can use anything from 3.25 - 3.75GB of RAM, but not more. PAE solves that problem, but then your CPU needs support for it (ARMs do), and it creates an additional layer of indirection when accessing RAM, making it very slightly slower. And it gives nothing additional to applications.

32-bit applications usually have a 2GB limit. With a 64-bit OS you can allocate almost all your RAM to a single application. Not quite as useful in a phone, though. Also, you have access to 64-bit registers, making floating point arithmetic more accurate, without having to conflate two 32-bit registers together.

The Note 3 has 3GB of RAM on-board, so it's already at the limits of what can realistically be placed in the phone with a 32-bit CPU.

Agreed. Sounds very convenient and I'm sure Apple made sure its fast.

Now you can actually put in a full alphanumeric passcode of 20 chars as backup, then use the fingerprint button for quick access. And our criminals will hopefully figure out that it becomes useless to steal the phones.

The amount that Apple charges for more storage space is outrageous, but it's in line with what many others charge. Would anyone buy a 16GB phone if it wasn't much more expensive to double that space?

I had to choose between an S3 and an iPhone 4s when I got my current phone in June last year. Thank god I chose the S3. Its big screen, slim profile, fast hardware, removable battery, expandable memory and custom ROM support makes it an awesome phone to date. It still looks like a flagship. My step-dad's 4s looks extremely outdated, and the screen seems miniscule after getting used to the S3.

Let's hope the NSA has no access to that fingerprint data that will now be collected by the millions ...

Its Apple, there is an extremely high probability of that.

Motorola was the first to have a fingerprint scanner on the Atrix 4G in 2011. So far from being an 'Apple' innovation.

Added to that:

Wall Street Journal confirms that “at least one” Android phone will come with a similar fingerprint sensor baked right in.
