iPhone appeal slipping

Google Search in JB has some very smart algorithm that predicts my search phrase when I start typing and it is as if the frikkin thing reads my mind. I'm often amazed to see how the predictions hit the nail on the head first time. As if the OS learns to know me the more I use it. Some really clever AI in there somewhere.

Jelly Bean's changes were quite extensive: http://www.android.com/about/jelly-bean/

iOS 6 doesn't sound too inspiring:

"We already know everything there is to know about the upcoming iOS 6 and let’s face it – it’s not going to be the jump Apple is trying to convince us it is. Everything is pretty much the same, with a few tweaks here and there, an overdue Facebook integration and extended Siri functionality."

Yea no Jelly Bean is very cool, I can't go back to ICS after using it. Particularly smitten by JB-Roboto font. But iOS6 is also very cool. The new Maps look great.

I have mentioned this in another thread, but unless Apple come up with something as aesthetically pleasing as the S3, they are going to have a hard road ahead I think. Being lucky enough to own both, I can say that when I look at my iPhone after a day with my S3, it looks very dated. The build quality is far superior on the iPhone, Samsung didn't really wow me in this department, but overall the S3 feels a few years ahead of the iPhone.

I think what is most frustrating to consumers is Apples slow, minor updates that they do to their line of products. They need to start wowing the consumer more. Gone are the days where Apple was revolutionary. They are now competitors rather than innovators. Its all been done, so no one is going to fall off their seat when you release a new model that looks exactly the same and has slightly better insides. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Apple products, they are solid well built machines, but unless they blow some socks off with the iPhone 5 I don't think that many people are going to hang around using their phones.

Oh my feck, "Aesthetically pleasing". Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder I see. What really amazes me is how everyone winges about the slow updates...

Unless you buy a new android device every year, you are the one that is getting left behind as the latest android version will either take a million years to filter down to your phone or you'll most likely not receive it at all.

A friend of mine got a S3 last week and within the first day of her playing with the phone it rebooted itself.

Also after installing whatsapp her contacts wouldnt sync properly which resulted in her having to reinstall the app.

I'll agree that Android is starting to look flashier than iOS but to be fare. Its not as easy to operate and to the vast majority of people, it is quite frankly overwhelming and lacks the UI flow of iOS.

Lets also not forget that there are more apps on iOS and that developers prefer iOS as well, as its actually a platform that brings in money as opposed to Android where most people pirate.

Most people just want an easy to use phone that doesn't crash. Android doesnt deliver on either of these fronts.

It seems that SA is turning into a massive Android market but it doesn't surprise me considering how blackberry also took off over here. what a joke.

I see people throwing "android pirate" around as if iOS doesn't get its fair share of pirates.

Every single person I know at work, has jail broken their iPhone or iPad to get the apps free.

But with JB you might wanna hold on to your opinion before assuming they wont improve it to prevent piracy.

Well... quite a few of my iPhone 4 toting friends and family are now using their new Samsung Galaxy SIIIs ... and ALL are saying WOW. No one really wants their hand-me-down iPhone's either... all want the SIII.

That tells me something... and if it is holding true for others... then I understand the threat Samsung is to Apple. I understand too all the iPhone 5 hype that is needed to put off the potential SIII switchers... and these seem to be on the up.

Frankly I don't get the infatuation with the SGS3, not when the HTC OneX is just so much nicer from a build quality, UI and screen perspective.

I am full on Apple, my whole house is Apple. AppleTV, Apple MacBook Airs, iPod, iPhone, iPad, iMac, but I picked up my SGS III yesterday, works well so far. Works as an island, since nothing in my house can talk to it, but as a phone, it is good. I still have my other apple product for my other everyday stuff.

I'll take one - can I PM you my postal address? :)

Guess that says something about demographics. Out of 10 or so people at my work who have iphones and ipads NONE of them have jailbroken devices.

Hey Hey

Most ex-iPhone'ers on my side are just basking in the ease of use and features... they all were under the impression that it was just a cheap rubbish clone that would be useless... and ALL are very pleasantly surprised. They are all Apple MacBook, iMac and iPad users too... and still will be... but are now perhaps looking a little further than the next i-product. One has even purchased his 1st Samsung tablet this week... and is really enjoying this too. Awesome is being used to describe it.

Perhaps Apple waited a little long with the iPhone 5 release and Samsung as snuck some thunder ? I dunno... will these friends and family members still get the iPhone 5... perhaps yes... but they are all raving about their Samsung SIIIs... gushing even... and this coming from Apple exclusive friends and family is unheard of and something I would not have thought possible.

you got to hand it to Samsung though, they really outdid themselves on the SIII

The iPhone is so 2007....nothing much changed between upgrades. Just enough to fool the Apple boys.....a little tweak here....a little face lift there.....a little...etc.
Underneath, it's still pretty much the same.

Ja....The iPhone is sooooooooo 2007

Three - that's just plain greedy.

Hehehehehe... OK... when I get offered an iPhone 4, I will swap it for your 3G for Wayne. No own gohl, a draw. Win Win.

I'm not swayed from my iPhone. I know that a year from now there will have been half a dozen "newer, better, greater" Samsung models released making the S3 look tired literally within months from now. By this time, Google will have released several new Android iterations which are usually less stable than the factory installed versions and falling prey to ever increasing fragmentation with each new version. Not to mention that the phones themselves will look like overused coffee coasters held together with masking tape. All this, while my trusty iPhone will still look as pristine as the day it was unboxed and continue to work like a Rolls Royce, integrating seamlessly with a well thought out ecosystem and benefiting from an unfragmented OS environment.

My opinion.... OK...
