iPhone here this month

So I signed up on the page for a pre-release order. Since then I have got bored of waiting and ordered another phone. Do I still have to get the iPhone?

Hmmm, interesting. I wanted a iPhone for my birthday, but think id rather go for the Ghd Hair straightener. Or maybe an iTouch, will see :)

I really wanted an iPhone 3G, but after doing some research on the net, I've found that there are better alternatives, like for example HTC diamond touch, or the soon to be launched Sony Ericsson Xperia X1...

The iPhone is all about hype, and doesn't really do anything that makes it worth while...

Ha-Ha, so because Vodacom has dragged their heels they have lost a lot of customers. Serves them right for not cashing in on the initial hype.

Count me out as well.

Not true, I got an iPhone because I like it, it has nothing to do with hype the ipods are about hype yes but the iPhone I've owned for nearly a year and it keeps getting better with each firmware update.

The App store is also incredible... lots of free apps, no other phone maker comes close here.

It doesn't matter what you think of the iPhone, but I would avoid the Diamod Touch like the plague. It is not a nice phone, difficult to use and generally a pain in the ass.

The Xperia looks like a much better bet (not that I have seen it yet)

The lack of a real keyboard on the diamond is a killer for anything other than making phone calls. I had it for a week and sent 0 SMSs, that should tell you something

How exactly, oh enlightened one, did Vodacom drag their heels?

Did it ever occur to you that the date for the iPhone release is controlled by Apple and not Vodacom?

Dear Vodacom3G,

It looks really unprofessional when a company representative do not know the difference between there, they're and their. Please consult a dictionary before making any further posts...

And by the way, there are a couple of other countries included in the same release cycle as SA, that have already released the iPhone, so I think it is safe to assume that it is mainly vodacom/vodafone's fault that it's not yet available here...

I agree with Pope, there is basicaly the whole world looking at the iPhone ready to critisise it, but are not willing to admit that it is has beckoned the future of all other phones to come for at least the next 10 years.
Everyone speaks all starry-eyed about the Diamond Touch (which i think is an amazing industrial design) but look closer at all the reviews and you will find that it always comes down to the phone not getting past its Win Mobile roots. If only HTC would make its own operating software for phones. The same has been said for the Xperia, once you get past all the custom eye-candy, there is good old Win Mobile destroying the experience.

The iPhone on the other hand is one continuous user friendly experience. A year ago, everything it did with its user interface was ABSOLUTELY ground breaking, and even after a year other companies are failing to compete, they almost get there but miss the boat.

Now on to Vodacom...
I honestly cannot believe how Vodacom has dealt with this whole thing:
#1-
"Most Likely arrive this month"
Give me a break, if your not willing to at least say that it is coming this month, go crawl back into your cave and tend to your fire.

#2-
" Vodacom has been accepting pre-release orders through its website, but again Field would not disclose the exact number of orders. She did however indicate that there is a great deal of excitement about the imminent launch"
Ok, do I even have to say anything...
Either the pre-ordering has gone not as planned and there are far less people interested in the iPhone than they thought, or g#d forbid:
They actually have gotten a good response but Vodacom is too dim to understand the media hype it would create to release the numbers.

Either way I just wish that any other company but Vodacom were releasing the iPhone.

Rather feeble response, don't you think?

But thanks for the spelling lesson, Adriaan. I did actually fix it before you posted but there you go; even company representatives get caught out.

BTW, it looks really unprofessional when making assumptions on a topic you know absolutely nothing about and then getting it completely wrong, for example the release dates of phones.

Please consult someone who actually does know before making any further posts.....;)

Haha, good one...and btw, really great way to keep your customer motivated!

We'll talk again the day your judgement is not clouded by the fact that you have to look up to the Uberlords at Vodacom for your paycheck. ;)

Answer me this; If the iPhone is the next BIG thing and everyone is waiting with baited breath for it to be released, with their (or 'there' for Adriaan) money ready, why on earth would Vodacom not have released it yet?
