iPhone in SA on 22 August?

Well we'll have to see...

Would be a nice treat if it is released then.

At what price?

Yes, sure it will be released in SA, but at what price? We will probably be ripped off again, as we usually are in this country. It was released in the States for 199.00 Dollars - there should be no reason for it being any more than R 1 600.00 here. What's the bet it's 3 times that? Vadacom, MTN, Telkom - all the same.

The common guess is that the prepaid version will sell for R8000 - R10000, for the 8/16 gig versions.

Whose common guess is that exactly? I very highly doubt it will be in that region. In fact, I doubt it will even be R5000. I'm thinking most likely free on a business contract and around R2000 on a weekender. Maybe even cheaper.

(If we do pay for anything it will be the data plan)

...said the n00b who posted 936 posts in the "IwantItAll Competition" thread... :D

Yep, there is a .kick command - type it in an see what happens.

It's a nice to have toy... essentially an ipod that you can phone mommy with. I think we are going to be surprised when we see the official price.

Biggest target audience is the youth .... they wont pay your estimated 8-10k and apple wont allow that kind of nonsence.

Let me throw in a number. I am guessing R500pm and R2000 pay in. 2 year contract. As far as a cash price goes, don't think they will even have the option :S No matter what you do you will need a data plan with it anyways. I mean what use is the iphone if you can't use it the way it was designed?

So I am guessing most ppl will go with the contract :)

But you can surely add your own mp3's and videos to the iPhones huge 16GB memory stick - otherwise what is that for?

you don't need to use data with the iphone, just copy, and paste.

Ladies... Calm down.
(Men know what I'm about to say ;) )

The $199 price tag is not for the phone straight. It is the pay-in with a 2 year contract.

So.. The point is, which contract will that be on? Most probably, the Weekender. So, 2k pay-in. R135 a month. 85 off-peak minutes etc.

(So, for me, this would mean a R4k pay-in on the top-up 200... )

U do know the iPhone 3G does not have copy-paste functionality right? :D

the Iphone is more than just a media player...you can browse the net and do all sorts of stuff online also. Buying a phone like that with no data plan seems silly.
