iPhone price shock

Same here, most phones today just seem to be adding features and gimmicks so that things may look good on paper but the essence of functionality gets lost. The iphone does not come with MMS but I consider this a good thing, who needs it when you have a perfectly good email app? you just end up with a Frankenstein phone with features that belong in the 90's and are no longer needed.

No MMS means none of those stupid ads on TV  "SMS to receive/subscribe crap"

So the pricing suggested here is double the US retail price, how the hell do they come to that? I know mac products carry a premium in Europe and SA, but double the price?

They're making core seem like a discount store, and that's saying something. On average apple products here are 20% more than the US, so how do they get double for the iPhone?

Let's wait for the official price announcement from Vodacom, we can speculate here till the cows come home.

This whole iPhone thing is actually ridiculous. You not only have to wait eons for it, but you then have to sell your kidney and port to Vodacom for it as they the only service provider with rights for it. Please people get over it. The phone is not even that great, it can’t do this, it can’t do that. I seriously don’t get why on god’s green earth everyone is so hyped about. Maybe the fact that no one can get one makes everyone want one? Ok iPhone fanboois bring it on, here I am :D :D :D ;)

It's a Phone, that has an i in front of it, making it an iPhone. What more could you want?

I think alot of the people showing their frustration here are taking it out on Apple when indeed it's Vodacom's fault. All the other countries launched on schedule... this should indicate that Vodacom isn't fit have the sole rights. After all, their 3G coverage was non existent before they announced the iphone... are they even working on expanding the coverage and could this be the reason for the delay?

I think you're right, Rendier - Vodacom is unnecessarily delaying the launch. I have signed up from the start, so have received an email from Vodacom Direct...but every day I'm thinking - is this still a good deal?

My friends in Australia & Sweden have been using their iPhones for a while now & when they ask me when we're getting it, it just tell them - Africa is always last on the list. :)

The New Touch Pro for me, thanks.

iPhone is not worth it. Not even if it was 32GB.
Agreed!!! If it weren't for Apple's peerless marketing their product/products wouldn't float.... Credit to their marketing department, it's possibly the best in the world!!

Amazing how marketing can sustain mediocrity...

So how exactly it it's Vodacom's fault? Other than a general announcement that South Africa would get the phone never once was an official date announced by Vodacom. Yes they could have at least made some announcements, but they never promised anything. So what have you got to complain about? As I have pointed out before Vodacom have been releasing all the other phones in a timely fashion, so the common denominator is Apple.

And how exactly is their 3G coverage non-existent? How would you explain the fact that I have been using 3G from Vodacom for over a year if they don't have any coverage?

Agreed.
I canceled my vodacom contract yesterday.
When they asked me why , i said it's because i have been waiting for the iphone
for 2 month now, the guy said he can call me in October and will give me feedback on the iphone, but i told him not to bother and to cancel my contract.

I signed up with MTN, R319 a month on Anytime 200 and i will be getting
the Samsung onmia shortly.

I have to agree with morkhans here - the common denominator is Apple, and I have always percieved them as being rather useless.

So you wanted an iPhone so badly you got a Samsung? I'm not sure I understand, but it's your choice...

lol
After i heard about the Omnia , i lost interest in the iphone.
I was just trying to make a point, that vodacom can not handle their customers the way they do and keep on postponing the release date.
