Thought I would make a new thread just to share an experience on the toughness of the latest iPhones.

1st off I'm normally very careful of my phones & take good care of them. Come resale time they get sold at a good price.

Early this afternoon I went to pick up my kid from school; popped him in the car seat & while in the road just wanted to check something urgently on my iPhone (6s Plus) & in what seemed like a split second...I took it out of my jeans & it somehow slipped out of my hand from & fell face down on Tarmac! I was shattered... Expected the worse; immediately picked it up & I saw there was like no damage...just a very very tiny amounts of scuffing!

Tested to make sure TouchID & screen input all works & all was good. Get in the car to make the 16km journey home. At a robot (traffic light) close by I pull out the phone & I see its not function at all...cannot boot up. I start panicking

Get home...plug in charger..nothing. Performed Hard reset & all good. Tested all functionality & all good. Then went thru the exterior with a fine tooth comb & I promise you the phone is still in excellent condition! The *only* thing is two very minor scuffing at the top.

I doubt you can make out from the pics. (Were taken with a tired 4s btw)

If I was not an iPhone fan already now I was an even bigger fan now...

Damn they make quality phones!

Lest we also not forgot about the water resistance abilities of the 6s duo that iFixit confirmed.

Impressive impressive hardware.

Falls flat face down on tar & just a tiny scuff...

Rest assure my "lesson" learned as well...whew

So let me tell you about a R7000 iFix bill. Not so impressive imho

Depends on how the phone impacted the tarmac. My friends wife dropped her iPhone 6s onto a wooden deck and the screen cracked. just 1 clean line across the screen.

Want to see real toughness?
3 different phones dropped from a drone at 275 metres. only 1 survives.

The s series is a big improvement over its predecessor. The 6+ is a bloody disgrace when it comes to how easily the screen cracks.

Dropped my 5S yesterday, dented the back and smashed my screen protector. That aluminum is weak :D wasn't too impressed

My 5S bent in my pocket from what I can only assume to be heat on a drive down to Kimberley. Luckily I have iCare on all my phones and it was replaced.

I hope the SE is stronger it was a bad fall though so I guess it's not terrible but I don't think an S5 would have been as damaged for example

My current phone (the 5S) is my 21st cellphone I've owned overall (since 1997) and my second iPhone...and literally the only phone I have NEVER dropped...all my previous phones have been dropped one way or another, luckily the worst damage I ever had on any of them was scuff marks...

And my 5S is now 27 months old and still going strong...I hope it will remain "drop free" until I upgrade later this year!

Why would you keep your phone in your pocket whist driving?

Should I keep it in direct sunlight then? I always keep my phone in my pocket when driving.

Are direct sunlight and your pocket the only two options you have available?

I can keep it in the door panel but I'd most probably forget about it there. Anyway, I just keep my phone in my pocket whilst driving.

Why, because your car doesn't have a roof?

This has got to be the most ignorant reply I've ever come across. I drive a Z4 M Coupe so I have no space to store the phone in the centre consol without it getting in the way and it doesn't have an arm rest either.

I suppose, based on the above post, your next reply is going to be something along the lines of "who buys such a dumbass car?"

Understood. Cool car.

Cool car!

Had a couple of people drop their 6S at work, damage ranged from scuffs to a single crack on the display by the earpiece to full on ****ed.

Mileage definitely varies based on how the phone hits the floor.
