Hi there, hope I can get guidance as always. I'm no pc or networking guru, if I maybe explain something wrong.
We recently installed new pos system. 4 pc terminals all linking to 1, the server, iow 5 terminals. They are connected via ethernet cable to the switch (gigabit d-link). The software we use is IQ Enterprise. The 5 terminals are connected, and all use the 1 pc as the main server. We installed iq on the main pc, then mapped the network drive on the 4 other pc's, and created a desktop shortcut for each, to open iq on the terminals.
Everything work fine, but just all of a sudden now and then, the 4 pc's freeze, only the main one operating. It is just the IQ Pos software on each one that freezes, not the whole pc or windows. Then we have to stop the IQ Program via the task manager. Then we open IQ Pos as usual, and all good again.
So my idea here is, it is not the individual pc's that causes problems, but the link that is broken for a split second. Because every time it happens, I close the running program via task manager, and all works fine again. I'm going to change the network switch tomorrow morning before we opens, to see if thats where the problem is, then after that we must start looking into the network setup of the server pc. I have a extremely good it technician on speed dial, but just want some other input also. I dont believe it is poor workmanship with the cabling, because its the same problem on all the pc's, not just one. The power management on the server pc is also set to not ever switch of anything, or to sleep anything.
Any ideas, or maybe experience with this kind of thing?
