Is Apple worse for open source software than Microsoft?

I have dealt with many web and system developers over the years and they are not the R1000 web site designer who does websites part time. None of them would ever touch Flash because it always limited them from achieving what they want.

Well spotted - actually I am a developer and that was a before shot of a system we took on. It was bogged down due to a bad SSIS implementation. My development work is mainly focused on C# .NET apps connecting to Oracle 10g databases. Your 1.5TB database is pretty sweet, however when dealing with stuff like network call data you can have an Oracle database that exceeds 40TB. It then when partitioning becomes absolutely vital for performance.

So no - I am not ignorant - I just have a lot of experience and references.

Go see for yourself. Apple's Snow Leopard source code is up for downloading:

Also, if you buy a Mac you'll be able to download the vastly superior Xcode
development kit at no cost, that will allow you to target Mac or iPhone/iPad.

Maybe you should spend 5 minutes with Google instead of sounding like you
have some deep-seated grudge against Apple?

Um, thats not the source code for SL... thats the source code (mostly) for some applications that Apple raped from the FOSS world (mostly posix stuff). Under the licences they have to post that code there. Theyre not doing it because they are supporting FOSS, more likely because they are legally obliged. Its nice that they are using some of the FOSS libraries and apps but that certainly isnt the underlying OS.

Thus implying Apple is cross platform development, which makes them look awfully anti-competitive.

You're right - the open source code is in http://darwinbuild.macosforge.org/ - my mistake. In this case the
commercial version of MacOS X is slightly ahead of the open-source Darwin project. At least I can use Apache
under Macos if I wanted to as it's already installed. I don't see Microsoft giving me any access to any source
code. If i build anything with their tools, it has to be linked to a huge opaque monolithic runtime...
You can't rape anything from the open source world - they GIVE it for free. It's up to you if you want to improve
and give your code back to the community - which Apple seems to be doing anyway. All I know is that I rarely
have to reboot my Mac and that I never worry about viruses - which is the symptom of a major design flaw from
Mr Gates' shop.
