Is Cell C Smartchat a good data offering?

Its also good to mention that both MTN and Vodacom offers have access to their LTE network where Cellc does not. So this compared to the MTN deal its a no brainer to take the MTN deal with LTE access AND Afrihost data access.

How would this compare to Cell C's Supercharge rates?

It seems that MTN's offering (1 gig / 25 minutes) is better, considering they have the better network and you can use the 1 gig anytime.

MTN anytime R50 topup (R39) + Afrihost data = winning my contract choice at the moment

Jose **** Santos is ruining Cell C. Lars made Cell C a consumer champion with cheaper data, than AKC made Cell C undisputed consumer champion with SIMPLE AND AFFORDABLE packages. But now Cell C, under this **** seems intent on ruining the goodwill they created, first with high and different OOB data prices and now STUPID AND COMPLICATED packages. Vodacom and MTN thrived on their STUPID AND COMPLICATED packages because in those days there wasn't much of a choice. Now there is competition from everywhere. Telkom Mobile followed Vodacom and MTN's STUPID AND COMPLICATED packages and look where they are. Cell C had it right under AKC. They're heading for disaster with this BS. It takes time for consumer goodwill to be built up with price cuts and the like. Cell C are only just reaping the rewards. But consumer goodwill can be lost in a fraction of that time. On the other hand, Cell C suffers from the reputation of having poor network quality. That may be true or false, but that's what consumers believe. It will take a while with good performance to change those perceptions. So, if Cell C offers packages which are pretty much on par with Vodacom or MTN, consumers will no doubt choose Vodacom or MTN instead of Cell C. I THOUGHT CELL C WERE TRYING TO GET MARKET SHARE?

Cell C's July phone contract specials are way higher than previous months. WHY? Are Cell C trying to lose business?

+100000000000

As someone with alot of knowledge of whats going on on the inside, i have to take my hat off to this guy but don't worry consumers, they first going to bend store owners over and screw them proper before they start screwing you...

I'm glad someone noticed.

Very well said,I am an avid Cell C supporter and I am happy with my network performance but unfortunately most people have the perception that it is worse than MTN and Vodacom. The only way I could still promote Cell C was because they had better and simpler call rates, the direction the OOB hike and this Smartchat contract rates are going though I'm not going to be touting them to friends and family anymore unless they get their act together again.

Jose D**s Santos is indeed messing up the goodwill Cell C has gained in the market.

And they are right.

Besides LTE coverage I don't agree with that at all,in my experience many areas including my own get much better Cell C data rates than MTN and Vodacom. At my home Cell C data is 5 times faster than MTN,at my work there is virtually no Vodacom reception and visiting clients/suppliers battle to get on their Vodacom data with laptops/phones/tablets and I end up giving them access to our wifi.I just done a speedtest with Cell C here now and I'm getting 3,72MB/s which is much more usable than the nothing others are getting on Vodacom and the 1MB's MTN gets here as tested just now.

Yes there are other places I have noticed the opposite but still you can use the internet at least using Vodacom edge in those areas if you are on Cell C.

That is why Cell C just has to be cheaper, else they will die !

Yes until they get equal LTE footprint or a better reputation they indeed do need to be cheaper or they will start loosing customers.

I used to have good Cell C data where I live, but now there is zero throughput due to congestion.

And it won't roam on Vodacom 2G because the Cell C reception is good.

And I have found the same elsewhere.

^ this. We LITERALLY have to go stand outside (and specifically on one side of our house) to make a f*ckin' phone call these days. Was definitely not like this a year ago. Cell C data throughput? LOL! That's like a myth these days - I've filed it under unicorns & world peace.

Funny how its always the same people in the same spots complaining for years about Cell C data,Jola you have been supposedly having bad reception at "Wanderers" according to your own reports for years now but you haven't changed networks yet, that sounds very strange. Its a free market and if you are not happy with a network IN YOUR PARTICULAR AREA then change over and support a network that suits your needs rather than complain about the same issue for years.

Thats why number porting was implemented in SA to give you a choice.

I'm looking at getting MrsC the R299 5c next month on Smartchat. She hardly uses minutes or SMS anymore and she runs out of data very quickly. I'm not seeing why this is such a bad deal. I've currently got 4 1/2 hours of unused minutes on my contract because I just never call anyone. But yea the new OOB rates are awful.

Its not a bad deal but its not cheaper or more competitive than the competition. In fact the 5c deal with minutes(straight up) for R299 is much better IMO.

100 minutes, 100 sms and 100mb for r299? Well last month MrsC went way over her 100mb and it cost us a packet. And we never use the minutes or SMSes. What does the competition have that's a better price? Maybe I should research it...

Can't speak for Jola but when I ported to Cell C (from MTN) we had pretty good reception at our place. Better reception than Vodacom and on par with MTN. I had been playing around with a Cell C prepaid sim for a couple of weeks at that point. First couple of months were fine. No issues. Even "forced" the missus to port to Cell C cause it was "great" and CHEAPER than the others.

Now a year later and the reception has gone to sh*t. Initially data throughput suffered (congestion?). Now making a voice call is a chore.

So what are my options? Cancel two contracts and port to MTN (will cost a bit!)? Continue paying for something we can't use properly? Keep calling Cell C until I get more than a reference number? What should I do?
