Is IPS LCD really worth it?

Hi all

Can anyone with experience with IPS displays please give some input here. Are they really worth it?

Thinking of getting the HP ZR24W 24" 16:10 @ R4200.

I'm not someone working with graphics, but I use the PC a lot - work, games, watching a few series, a bit of photography etc. Reviews say it has a fast enough response time for gaming.

not worth it for you then :)

ips have higher latency, not huge diff but some gaming could look laggish.

isp is insane good for graphics designers etc.

rather get samsung p2770h for your needs :)
 
TBH, my 8ms HP IPS panels are much, much faster than my "2ms" Sammy TN. They are definitely fast enough for gaming. Much better on the eyes. If you do Photoshopping, definitely worth it. Movies will also be better on it.

I've read it's fine for Starcraft 2 and most games. My biggest concern would be for Call of Duty, have not read about CoD on IPS yet.

P2770H is too big for my desk. And, the problem I'm having with my current 24" 16:9 is that I'm finding it too wide for CoD. So looking to get 16:10 1980x1200.

The next consideration is the Asus VW266H 26" 16:10 TN LCD @ R3000. http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/asus_vw266h_monitor_review/1

Yeah, I've heard they're better on the eyes which sparked initial interest, as I use the PC a lot.
 
yeah ips panel my friend tested was dell 27 ultrasharp, and that sadly had some lagg, but god that image qaulity and resolution is insane!!

For your use, an IPS plasma will give you a much better viewing experience. Deeper blacks, quicker response time etc...

R4200 is a good price. Mine were R6500+vat for 20", but that was 4 years ago... Also don't be fooled by the specs. It seems manufacturers just suck them out somewhere (at least this is the case with TN panels). I've measured monitors with 2ms claimed response times to be closer to 25ms gray to gray. The best would be if you could demo it somehow. Basically , if your budget allows, go for it. IPS panels are worlds better than TN, and if I had known that the response time of the Sammy would be so bad, I would have bought another IPS instead.
 
If it is primarily for gaming, then I wouldn't worry too much about IPS.

TN screens are fine for gaming, they have nice quick response times and all. But go 1 degree off angle up, down, left or right and all the colours go wonky :p

You should rather get a plasma for gaming, I hear they are superior in every single respect :p

IPS is not a plasma, its still LCD, just different technology from the cheap TN most monitors are.
 
Id just like to point out here that all IPS Plasma panels suffer from sever IMAGE RETENTION and SCREEN BURN
