Is it really worth waiting for Vumatel?

Vumatel was supposed to install fibre yesterday. They didn't pitch and I have not been able to get any further communication from them. 5 phone calls to the call centre and no joy. I was either put through to an extension that nobody answered or just disconnected.

My Cell C person said they would reschedule but this means I will be without internet indefinitely. Who knows if they'll show up for the next appointment?

I'm tempted to just carry on with Openserve. They have been perfectly fine so far.

I think it is worth it considering the price difference, also remember vumatel outsource the installs to other companies just like Telkom/Openserve does, so unfortunately it isn't always Vumatel who is at fault as the contractors sometimes do their own things.

Yes Vumatel need to improve their customer service I do agree there.

I had the same thing happen with my first install date. When I called, I got transfered supposedly to installations, but arrived at sales every time. After being transferred about 3 times, I'd arrive at a phone that would go to voicemail. I eventually realized that this final transfer was to the mobile of the contractor who hadn't turned up.

So I called them again and after the transfer to installations which again ended up at sales, I asked them to please not transfer me before saying anything else and explained that the contractor was not answering. They then arranged a new install date 4 days later. On the second install date, they turned up as expected and eventually got everything installed and working.

It was painful, but boy was it worth the effort. I'm with Cool Ideas and since the installation was completed, other than outages caused by escom, there has been a total downtime of around 15 minutes. Thats over a period of 3 months. I believe there was also a two hour outage in the early hours while they upgraded something, but that didn't affect me and was per-scheduled.

I'm still waiting. Vumatel finally installed but it's not working. Cell C are no help and I've had no contact from anyone since Friday last week. I have decided to cancel the whole lot and go back to Openserve. It was working and I had no downtime.

Do you have the orange lights on, on the CPE?

Still waiting for Vumatel to fix a fibre break.

I am having the same issue with Vumatel.

My installation was done on the 12th of May 2017. There is just a blue light flashing. A week later I got feedback that there is a Fibre break somewhere along the line.

Since then it is nearly impossible to get any feedback or updates from Vumatel on when they think they might repair the line.

I have started sending them an email once a week requesting feedback, today will be the third week, and I am sure they will not get back to me.

Seems like Openserve might not be a bad option at this stage.

I place my order on the 1st of September 2016! Our area went Live at the beginning of April 2017.

I have also signed up with Cell-C, since they seem to offer a good deal, but it does not look like we will have the pleasure to test this sometime soon.

@Vumatel, I appreciate you have some challenges, but you could at least give your customers feedback if we contact you!

I've gone back to Openserve via Crystalweb. Great service and speed.
I got a phone call from Vumatel 2 months after all this drama started. They were very surprised that I no longer wanted them to come fix my fibre. So they arranged to come and uninstall - strangely enough they pitched for that appointment.
I don't want to know what happens to existing customers when there's a problem. The service is appalling.

Where are you located ?

In Cape Town area I have had 2 vumatel fiber installations done at over 50km distance from each other and in both cases the installation crew arrived 3hrs early ie. had 13:00 appoint at one location and they rocked up at 10:00 only to be told I will only be available at 13:00 then they arrived 12:50 as I got back home at 13:00

Similar situation at the other location, both times the booking were made the day before.

It seems like day and night difference between how you are being treated compared to my situation which seems very strange.
