Is it the Modem or the ISP?

Hi people,

I have 2 ADSL Accounts:

  • 1 from TelkomInternet (1GB per Month cap)
  • 1 from Incredible Connect (5GB Per month cap)

Part of the TelkomInternet, we signed a contract with telkom for that Do broadband level 1, it comes with an ADSL Line + Adsl Modem. It came with the Billion 400G Modem.

Now, when I try to use my Incredible Connect ADSL account ([email protected]), it says "Incorrect username or Password" and glows a Red LED Light by the modem. When I use the Telkom ADSL Account ([email protected]), the internet works (Im currently on local usage on this account).

Why doesn't my Incredible Connect ADSL Account work?? Is it the modem's fault or did the ISP Shutdown/terminate my account??

Red light = ISP.

Confirm that your Incredible Connection UID/PW combo is correct.

I have checked, my Username and Password are correct (I got a page with ADSL Username + Password) when I signed up. I tried to use their webmail and that is not working.

And yes I need a better modem, the Billion one I have keeps disconnecting (wi-fi) frequently :(

No company may network lock their modems, so if your TI account is working then it can only be a problem with your IC account. Phone them and confirm if it is still active and reset the password.
 
Your IC account is the problem. Has it been RICA'd? The account might have been created on IC's systems, but not yet activated. Phone them to get it sorted out.

And like everyone else said, get yourself a decent modem, preferably a Netgear. It will last you years without giving problems, and will maintain a much more stable ADSL connection, even over poor quality copper. The WiFi on these devices also just works, with no issues, or disconnects (provided you're within range, of course).

Yes I phoned them, they changed my password it works fine, thanks everyone. Quick Question: Does the Telkom Modem fault number 0800 375 375 operate on saturday too? I wanted to return my modem because of the wi-fi issue, and telkom told me I must phone the fault number first to get a reference number then i can come to them.
