I agree with you, Name changes have always been a thing throughout history, all over the world. People will get over this and move on.

I am not sure what triggered the latest bout of name changes though. It's also problematic that objections to the name changes appear to have been ignored to some extent. And the timing of the decision to move ahead with the renaming could not have been worse - with South Africa facing possibly its worst ever economic crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic.

As to those who claim that name changes will not stick - that is not correct. Name changes will stick, they just take time though (especially if they are difficult to pronounce ) e.g. Your kids will most likely end up calling PE by its new name Gqeberha.
How many people remember Eastern Boulevard (Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Cape Town) or Verwoerdburg (now called Centurion)?

My experience is that people go with the name what sound's easier to say. Which I think is the reason why Tswane is gaining a lot of momentum vs Pretoria

I've encountered a few people who came down to the coast from the Pretoria region refer to it as Tswane, maybe they felt using the official name was more apt/PC when out of the province.

Tshwane is the municipal area that encompass Centurion and Pretoria. Pretoria is the city.

Some changes make sense where the name has direct Apartheid connections.

But our financial priorities need to be aligned to what the country actually needs. The majority of changes that happen now are arising from ministers, government officials, etc. all trying to justify their existence.

So much attention is focused on the 'feels' and so little is focused on spending money on actual upliftment where it is needed, e.g. education, housing, employment opportunities, etc.
