Hi there,

How do I know which connection tethering is using? I have connected my iphone to a wifi network and am tethering this to my laptop. I see the wifi logo on the iphone and everything seems to be working fine. But I have the slight suspicion that it is using the 3G connection and not the wifi I am connected to. How can I find out which one its connected to...

Thanks in advance

If you see the Wi-fi signal it is using wi-fi. Best to just switch off 3G when in the house. iPhone OS 4.0 will introduce an option to switch off cellular communication altogether. If you're Jailbroken, SBSettings is awesome for this.

Thanks, but what I did was while I was tethering, I switched my 3G off and the connection was very slow on the laptop. I then turned the 3G back on and the speed was increased drastically. Hence my question. But I'm glad the iPhone OS 4.0 will eliminate cellular connectivity. Thanks

if you are in a wifi zone, why would you need to tether? Are you using it as a nic?

He's not using the right word - he means connecting to the internet via 3G on his iPhone, not tethering.

If I'm not mistaken - tethering your iPhone will share the internet from your iPhone's 3G/EDGE/GPRS connection to your computer, it will not share the internet from your iPhone's WiFi connection to your computer.
Correct me if I'm wrong...
