Is the Ipad worth getting?

I`ve got a long wait ahead of me, but my brother is coming down from Switzerland in early March and he will be bringing me a 64GB 3G iPad....

Cant take the wait though :)

Pity we dont have an answer on wether we will get the iPad 2 in April or the normal iPad 1... i think if we had an answer on this it would help alot of people make up their minds....

I currently own a 64gb 3G unit - until recently I also had a 16gb wifi unit as well(curse you house building).

The ipad is awesome in all that it offers. my 2 yo absolutely loves it - the interface is so easy - she learned how to navigate it , just by watching us.

She selects her games and plays whatever catches her fancy.

Should I choose to find me a quiet spot to watch something - whilst the 2 other screens are occupied - i use my air video to watch on my ipad.

Alternatively - I will load up my movies on vlc(yes, i know it's been pulled)

I had to do move money between accounts recently whilst making a purchase and my ipad was there to save me.

I have a large collection of ebooks - over 300 and it allows me to read them at anytime I like or choose - on a screen that is a more than just adequate.

One of the best new things on the iPad is using the iPad for magazine subscriptions via www.zinio.com

One of our clients uses the service and its brilliant, you always have your favourtie magazines with you and they cost less due to not having any printing costs.

Thanks will check it out now

live and learn.... just found a new use for it.....
Glad I got it now
I haven't got one - I transfer photos directly from my camera to the ipad via wifi - so YMMV with what that article says you can do. In fact it would be cool to know what peripherals you do manage to get working. :)

But didn't you already have a net book?

Yes I did, but I wanted to upgrade it. Considered the iPad, but went for a new netbook. I have now made up my mind, I want both. :) Travel/mobile work = netbook, travel/mobile play and photos = iPad.

Well, I actually hooked a logitec headphone/mike up to it last night and was blown away by the sound (in line volume control also works)- excellent. I have also used a USB stick but it only finds a DCM folder with pics for importing into the iPhone - My Samsung USB laser printer does not work (was a bit of a push that one). I have not done the USB keyboard yet, I use the apple wirless keyboard.
/*must try the scanner next*/.
While 'playing' around last night, fed the game RageHD to my LCD TV via the VGA adaptor and played a great game on the TV using the iPhone/iPad as a controller.
Also the VGA controller feeds full screen movies to the TV in a watchable quality using the built in movie player (mp4). I have not tried VLC with plain avi's yet - might be a good place to start tonight.

i still don't know how a camera (on the back) would be very usefull. I don't think allot of people would use it.

So.....il be getting my iPad tomorrow(can't wait)
Just a few Questions
1. Does the Battery really last 10 hours as stated? (Playing games and watching movies)
2. What should i do 1st? Is there a list of what to do or get?

Thanks

Im getting my one next week.....probably will sell it when they confirm the launch of the iPad 2
I'll still make a profit or atleast cover my cost, right?

I sold my iPad last month and made a reasonable profit, I'm waiting for iPad 2. to be honest I'm tempted to buy another one in the meantime, i didn't anticipate I'll be this 'miserable' without it.

if someone else is bringing it back then why are you adding duties?

let the person open it & "use it" - turn it on - then if they are searched it is an open item & not considered for duties.

email the people you wish to buy it from & ask how much the tax would be & if it's included....

since 2003 I have been to the UK 4 times. In that time I have been searched zero times.

Electronic goods such as laptops have to be removed from your hand luggage. Here's what I would do: Remove the IPads from there packaging. place in my hand luggage & packaging in hold luggage. The units go through the xray scanner & not the boxes.

I left SA for on the 23rd of December with one laptop & returned on the 5th of Jan with 2 laptops that I had to remove from my hand luggage for the xray machine. I am however sure that they will ask questions if it is still sealed in the original packaging.

The battery life is awesome. I'm not sure if it's 10 hours but ours gets used pretty hard and I've yet to run out of juice.

You really shouldn't rely 100% on something that involves breaking the law. AFAIK you're still advised to declare your expensive items when you leave the country just to prevent yourself from being hit on your return.
