Is this a valid traffic violation / charge?

Where does it show the court date at the bottom?

We were discussing this in another thread.

It's a standard traffic violation form, so below the charges there is the date of court appearance and below that is the date before the fine can be paid in order not to go to court.

I'm guessing it will come down to that. Pity my sister her LLM degree is in Germany now.

If you think that a spelling mistake invalidates a law, ask her to have a crack at overturning the US constitution. It is filled with spelling and grammar mistakes. Pay the fine and move on.

Regardless of the rest, I think the spelling mistake should be reason enough to throw this out. There is no such thing as a stop sing.
Perhaps the officer meant "stop singh " as in Mrs Singh stop at the stop sign? :D

There is a valid code 17502 which indicates the traffic offence so the spelling mistake is irrelevant

So she went court on the date given and explained her story, that was a month ago. The prosecutor said she will need to get more details from the trafficop. It seemed like she also had her doubts about the whole thing. A new date was set for today so we went. Different prosecutor this time, the kind of guy you do not want to mess with, but he was very understanding.

He looked at the charge and my wife's explanation that she wrote and had stamped and signed by a commissioner of oath. Then he explained that if we did go to court the outcome could be a criminal record, alternatively he could reduce the fine now. He explained that if she really did drive K53 style, which we all know nobody does, then she would have come to a complete stop for a noticeable time.

After hearing that my wife only takes home about R10k a month despite having a PhD we had a nice chat and he actually gave her some good advice on places she should send her CV to :) The fine was reduced from R1500 to R500 - we paid and everyone left with a smile.

R1500 seems a bit steep. Got my first fine in several years last month also for not stopping at a stop sign. It was a T-junction and 9:30am on a Friday with empty roads. I did slow down to almost a crawl before taking off again. The cops were hiding in the bushes around the corner and gave me a R500 fine. I went online and paid it just before the 30 days were up for the 50% discount, R250 total.

Got stopped by the cops a month later (last week) at the same spot. This time I stopped (I always stop there now) so they couldn't fine me.
