Is this acceptable...?

So the sub-contractor for openserve came in to install the fibre. I was not there at the time. Apparently took him 30 mins and he ran the fibre exposed as per pic.

Is this acceptable. Shouldn’t it be in a conduit?

I'm not so much worried about the conduit - as long as it is out of the rain and out of reach of fiddling.

But this concerns me... that is coming close to the limits of "bend Radius"

The cable spec should tell you the bend radius.

Actually looks like way less than x15 of the cable diameter.

Hopefully they didnt run that cable across your yard without a conduit inside trench aswell. Then I would be really concerned.

Yeah, it should be fine, it just looks like a tight kink right there where the cable tie is.

Openserve usually aerials it from the pole to your house.

Nope. That's perfectly fine. That's ruggedised. Is a fibre inside it's very own micro conduit. It's fancy expensive and perfect for this job.

Well I don't think conduit is a requirement but I stand to be corrected on that. The fibre cable itself is pretty strong and when they installed my fibre the guy had some work pulling off the casing around the fibre cable.
It's pretty well protected even from rain and sunlight so I don't think it will be an issue actually. As mentioned it just should not bend too much or kink the it's fine.

Yes that casing or conduit is pretty strong and you really need to force it hard to kink the fibre. Strong plastic casing with curves to allow it to bend.

The black cable is pretty strong. It's designed to be hung between poles in the sun for years. Near the ground where it could be bumped or snagged it may be worth putting in a conduit otherwise it's fine.

What I would complain about is those white cable ties. They are not UV stabilised and will crumble and crack in about 12 months. Outdoor work should always be done with black cable ties.

Fact is, they test the cable, including tests for signal loss (due to bends / breaks) before they activate the service. They wouldn't activate the service if the tests failed.

The cable was tested, the tests are fine... There's nothing wrong. End of story.
