Ugh compact and split mode... no thanks. You still need to reach right over to hit the 'send' button in Whatsapp etc. I stuck to standard full screen 2 hand typing on the G2. Everything is a trade off but a phone that fits in one hand is ergonomically superior. Not saying a smaller phone is better than a bigger phone but on balance I prefer it. I like the iPhone6 size though, but would need to spend time with it to see.

I suspect it will use MIUI (which is really the best-looking ROM I've seen)

Not sure if other ROMs will be supported but, MIUI seems to be able to run on almost the majority of well-known Android phones http://en.miui.com/gid-23.html.

Number one reason was to take some decent food pics. I didn't have software issues with it. But now I'm remembering how much nicer the iOS software is.

I usually sneer at Apple products like many Android users but seriously?
This is a flagrant rip-off of the iOS UI. It doesn't even attempt to follow the Android design guidelines. Hell you even swipe up instead of down to get to the Control Center. It might as well be called the XiaomiToo.
Things like this only further the "Chinese knock-off"/"Fong kong" stereotype.

My dad had a G2 and now has a Z2. I've used both quite a bit because he's a technophobe and needs help frequently. If I had to run a phone with stock firmware I'd probably take an iPhone over either of those. I don't think the G3 and Z3 improve of their predecessors much.
However, a G2, G3, Z2, Z3 or even S5 with Cyanogenmod flashed on (or a OnePlus One with CM as standard) absolutely obliterate an iPhone imo.
It makes me a little sad that the majority of Android users have no idea how good Android can be. Google really needs to step up and put a stop to all the manufacturer bloatware and delayed firmware updates.
