I'm upgrading too, when I get the 5s. For now though, the 5 feels like an upgrade. I can feel the processor speed difference in some things like rendering speed. But otherwise it's altogether a better phone than the G2.

Regarding NFC, I use for accessories. I'm sure the Apple watch will use it too ... and then BAM, best.thing.ever ;)

Apple Watch IS an accessory. NFC for Apple is all about Apple Pay and any other product they can find.

It uses wifi and bluetooth to connect to your phone. The same way your phone uses wifi and bluetooth so you can answer phone calls and send SMS messages from your laptop or iPad.

As for tapping, Apple has iBeacons. It's been in the iPhones and AppleTVs for years. Just tap the AppleTV and it will configure itself to the same wifi as what the phone has got.

Also the more expensive, the better - and I bet he'll let people know exactly what his dad paid 'he paid R18,000 for my iPhone! I have the best phone because her paid R18,000!' and probably had his nose out of joint when they start selling them cheaper.

Seems you missed the part where the 64GB Plus costs R12,599.

Besides, like I've said many times before don't hate on something you can't afford. You would probably have a heart attack if you see my Hublot and AP watch collection.

The Watch is a fairly dumb terminal. It doesn't standalone at all. I imagine they'll expand its capabilities with iterations but for now it's really an accessory to an iPhone. With the 5s you will be able to pair up the Apple Watch to do Pay transactions.

Similar to the Sony band then.

I stand to be corrected - but doesn't the NFC tap create a wifi connection between the two without configure/button pushing?
I'd think then that although the Apple watch may ultimately be connected via another technology, they'll use NFC to create the connection?

The Apple Watch uses a peer-to-peer WiFi connection which is established via Bluetooth just like AirDrop and Handoff. Only Apple Pay uses NFC on the Watch and iPhone.
