is this VOX throttling?

okay quick question.

whilst downloading nvidia drivers, noticed d/l speed today is very slow... only goes up to 300kb/s.
but when i switch on nordvpn (sa server), d/l speed goes up to 3MB+/sec - as expected.

fwiw, I'm on the entry level tier 30/3 package.

is this VOX shaping/throttling? also i play Microsoft Flight Simulator a bit, and its very data intensive, sometimes I have to switch on the VPN as the game complains that the connection is too slow. sure I can upgrade to better package but if they just throttle it whats the use?

Personally my line is perfect my ISP is cool as well (hint there who they are) and sometimes i struggle with Nvidia drivers download speed as well, some of us have spoken to them about and it seems the server is a bit erratic and speeds sometimes aren't great sometimes its good sometimes its bad but it seems to be on Nvidias side.

Microsoft network also is give or take its been problematic for a long time now where some days speeds are great, while other days not.

In your case if Vox were shaping your traffic they would shape it to the VPN client as well and the speed wouldn't go through i.e. the connection is still going from your home to the VPN server so its still traveling (all the same data) on their network, so if they were shaping the speed you would see the same results from the VPN.

Your last paragraph is referring to throttling, not shaping. It is possible for the VPN traffic not to be shaped.

3mbps up seems very low and can certainly cause problems.

That said, I left Vox after complaining with their engineers about blatant throttling (100/100 package), and getting the finger plus "Sorry, we don't guarantee international traffic".

Needless to say, all the problems went away with another ISP. (CISP)

my suspicions as well... will upgrade my line, hopefully things improve. we're with frogfoot/vox at the mo, not really investigated yet what choices i have in my area... i think we're stuck with frogfoot for the physical line. yeah have heard good things re cisp.
