It would appear that Mweb is blocking BitTorrent 100%

I have been trying to test torrents downloads at night. essentially between 22h00-00h00. Still downloads at between 1-5 Kbps.

Honestly the effect of slower http downloads or streaming content is not a huge concern for me but unworkable torrents when I am not abusing is.
Also skype has become unusable. Jitter and image quality are ridiculous.

Not even mentioning the awful customer support I get from Mweb, the service I get from Mweb has become ****.
If Mweb do not want you to download/stream then only offer 1Mbps adsl contracts for people to read their damn mail.

I'll be short and sweet as it's bedtime.

Not one other person on this forum experiences these issues, nor comments on them.

Something else is at play here.

Someone mentioned a router hack where Chinese IPs/botnets (not sure of terminology) steal your upload bandwidth. Try changing domain from @mweb.co.za to @dslmweb.co.za or vice versa.

Lastly, about support. You won't find better telephone support in SA.

I know what you going through it's infuriating. To me its sounds exactly like the ISP's problem.
Why not try one of the free 1 gig accounts from another ISP and see if the problem goes away, If it does change ISP's.
My advice is to go for one of the capped products, you feel as if your line has been unleashed.

I used Mweb years ago when you could actually download at great speeds on their uncapped product.

Then all of a sudden they started their extreme shaping/throttling. I couldn't play games, download and browsing was a problem. It was like using 2g on a 3g network. At this time I had a 1 meg line which was slow and then getting throttled/shaped to 10% of what the line was capable of was unbelievably infuriating.

How I fixed my slow internet. I changed my username and password from an mweb to a afrihost (when Afrihost was still good). Speeds were back, I could download, play games and browse the internet again.

I'm really not trying to be mean, I think you just need to know that there are much better ISP's out there other then Mweb.

Not being able to play games or browse is unheard of on MWEB, who cater for gamers by prioritising gaming traffic and offering perhaps the best latency in the country.

p2p downloads are shaped until around 22h00 - 00h00 at night, as most uncapped ISPs do. Of course if you try to download during hours you will be shaped. The key is to leave your downloads overnight and wake up to them completed.

I repeat: MWEB Uncapped is not for big downloaders, or rather people who expect full speed on downloads during hours.

Throttling has been in existence for about 3 years now, and makes full sense. Uncapped does not mean all you can eat, how could it ever possibly mean that. All uncapped ISPs do it, or they shape. MWEB's throttle limits are some of the most generous out there, better than Telkom Internet, etc. They are also publicly known.

In fact, MWEB's 30 day rolling window is much better than a soft capped account.

I have read through that MyBroadband article's comments in the past. I'm not sure why you would link it when most of the comments about MWEB are in favour of MWEB.

I'm not interested in Hello Peter comments either, which is often a cesspit of ignorance. As one of the largest ISPs in South Africa, of course there are going to be plenty of dissatisfied clients. And I assure you that 9 times out of 10 it is because they are under the impression that uncapped means all you can eat, download whenever you want, etc.

The fact remains. As far as performance, stability, low latency, and 24/7/365 reliability, MWEB are one of the best at their game (the best in my experience, and many others').

I don't need luck, nor do the mass of others using MWEB.

Your case is in the 0.001%, and is extremely isolated. No one has your issues, simply put.

I'm not a troll, but I will be here if you do decide to respond. But you probably won't because you know you're unable counter the facts.

I have been getting 4kb/s on torrents on Mweb. Switched to vox just to download the same torrents at 800kb/s .

Because it's between ±06-07h00 and ±22-00h00.

As mentioned, leave your downloads running overnight, as with many ISPs. Download heaven is between ±22-00h00 and ±06-07h00.

And to re-repeat, MWEB is not for big downloaders, or people who expect full speed downloads during hours. Find another ISP for that.

I'm so glad all the hoarders and abusers went elsewhere. :)

I would second Vox, though.
 
When I was with mweb uncapped, I got throttled and the games did suffer, multiple timeouts, huge packet loss and high ping.

But as soon as I wasn't throttled I wouldn't get such issues.
 
The masses but it's always just LostthePlot and 1 or 2 others fighting the shyte Mweb fight .......

I'm pretty new to these forums so dunno if there are any active mods but on most forums this would get locked.

Tried downloading torrents after 12:00 am yesterday and lo and behold I could actually get normal download speeds.
Have not tried net gaming and skype but it stands to reason that if I also want to do those effectively, I will need to it after 12:00 am....

But how often does Telkom Internet Throttle? Been with them for a few years now, and I never got throttled? :confused: As a matter a fact, gaming traffic seems to be prioritized.
