It would appear that Mweb is blocking BitTorrent 100%

No such thing as uncapped.

Better description is Softcap. Once you reach a certain limit, you still have access but at a slower speed.

It's not soft capped either. Soft capped accounts are monthly, no rolling 30 day window.

Most importantly, a soft capped account does not let you fall back below the thresholds in order to achieve full speed again after a day or three of less use.

Big, big difference!

No no. When it started out, it was never meant to be abused. But it was. People then used SSL, etc. to abuse further.

They're a business, not a charity for abusers.

Their lack of foresight then, and so it remains the original uncapped product is long dead. Uncapped is a lie nowadays
 
ISPs always fiddling around with policies thresholds etc etc. Its a lie
 
@Postmanpot did you get the sms regarding the Always on being discontinued?

I don't understand how you can think this. Imagine if everyone in SA turned on their geysers or switched on their taps?

I know people who were kicked off before the changes for abuse/excessive usage.

I know people who were warned, then used SSL, and were then kicked off too.

In this case, 'unrestricted' means exactly the same thing that uncapped means.

I don't understand how you can think this, how can it possibly be unrestricted?! I take it you are a logical and reasonable person.

It's the abusers' cock-up, not MWEB's. If many people did not want to download the internet, thresholds would be much higher (but they're actually already high).

Hi Everyone.

I am on Mweb uncapped premium/4mb small business at 539 p/month.
My average use per month is 66gb. I cannot get higher download speeds on torrents than 40kB/s.
Would anyone suggest a package or isp that allows reasonable p2p traffic?

Sole would be used in a scenario where there is a singular (only) subject. It cannot be used in as the compliment to an object. Would've been better had you said:

Interesting, but my gut disagrees. I can't find a definitive answer, any luck? Would be good to know. At the moment I see no problem in using it as a synonym to single.

yes it was different every Mweb subscriber had first 300 minutes free and later it was changed to 300mb,Fon users used to get 5 gigs of and if you needed more you could top up Alwayson website, Always on was available in most locations that I went to,more than FON

I recently upgraded to a 10mb std mweb account.
Worked great for the first 1.5 months and then suddenly I began to experience huge lag when gaming, general file download speeds dropped dramatically and torrents were downloading at below 2Kbps.
I was no where near reaching my soft cap and the issue has persisted into the next month.

What I also need to mention is that I also had 2 customer service issues with mweb during the upgrade process.
The account I use at home was a 2mbps account that My dad paid for along with his work adsl account. I phoned mweb to ask what I needed to do to take over payments for this account and upgrade it. I specifically mentioned more than once and to more than one mweb representative that I wanted only the account that I use at home transferred over to me and gave them the relevant account name.
Account was moved over to me and upgraded after I had filled out the paperwork.
Informed that It could take up to a week for the upgrade to take effect. The week came and went and still the upgrade was not completed.
I phoned to confirm why the line had not been upgraded yet and the support representative told me that the order had not yet been processed and that it could take up to 2 weeks for this to go through. This was not what I was originally told so I lost my temper over the phone. After going off to speak to their manager for a few minutes, the support representative came back and told me that the upgrade would be processed immediately.

So the upgrade went through and I receive my next invoice/statement from mweb and I found that they had also moved my dad's work adsl account over to me.
I phoned mweb to complain and was told that the 2 accounts were previously joined and thus to unjoin them I need to fill out another set of paperwork.
The issue I had with mweb service on this occasion was:
-I had spoke to a few mweb reps in the last few weeks and told them that I wanted to move just 1 of 2 joint accounts onto my name and then upgrade and none of them mentioned that I needed to sign a set of paperwork for dejoining the accounts. The only paperwork I was asked to fill out was for the transfer
-My dad's work adsl account was moved without authorization. There was no paperwork from me that specified his account name.
-There was no apology from mweb, in fact they were quite dismissive of me

So poor service and customer support from Mweb. I'm sorry PostmanPot but Mweb is ****!
I need to start looking at an alternative ISP

Lag when gaming - sounds like a line/equipment fault to me.

General file downloads - you'll need to elaborate here. We did see some more aggressive shaping on HTTP downloads around 2 months ago where they were shaped to 200KB/s.

Torrents downloading at below 2KB/s - sounds like you're trying to torrent during hours. For several months now, p2p only opens up in the evening, usually between 22h00 - 00h00. This is standard with many ISPs.

Bottom line is MWEB isn't for downloading.

Given that my router I am using is only about 4 months old and that speed tests are still normal I doubt it.

Fair enough there could be many other factors in play here. But the just is that every action that I used to do through a browser is now slower
-http downloads
-viewing images
-streaming video/audio.

I have been trying to test torrents downloads at night. essentially between 22h00-00h00. Still downloads at between 1-5 Kbps.

Honestly the effect of slower http downloads or streaming content is not a huge concern for me but unworkable torrents when I am not abusing is.
Also skype has become unusable. Jitter and image quality are ridiculous.

Not even mentioning the awful customer support I get from Mweb, the service I get from Mweb has become ****.
If Mweb do not want you to download/stream then only offer 1Mbps adsl contracts for people to read their damn mail.
