It would appear that Mweb is blocking BitTorrent 100%

Oh, that I am completely aware of. I don't mind when people who pull 1TB a month get shaped/throttled, because that is clearly abuse. What I found jarring about the whole incident was how they dropped it on people when it was already too late to cancel their accounts for the coming month and the fact that they couldn't tell anyone what the new thresholds were. I also don't agree with throttling people to speeds that haven't been available for years (256k).

In general they just seem very money hungry and none of their business decisions is made in a way to benefit the consumer. Their OOB rates last year (and the fact that it is enable by default) was the nail in the coffin.
 
Sure that wasn't nice. Are you sure it is 256K, I thought netflix needs atleast 512 to run smoothly. And I run fine whe I reach the threshold.

when I left, I was being throttled to around 256k and my usage was below 200gb every month (4mb premium), so it was being that badly throttled 16 hours a day, bad latency in my game and them shutting down the news server that drove me away.

I remember that time, that I why I had an Afrihost cap account for my gaming. But these days I haven't had any issues in that regard.

I'm so glad they changed their Uncapped offering and chased the abusers away, leaving internet bliss for the rest of us.

MWEB thresholds are perfect for 95%+ of users, and they are even more lenient than some other ISPs.

Most importantly, they offer unshaped bandwidth, better than capped bandwidth, on their Uncapped accounts.

Lastly, throttling > shaping.

Since we pay so much money for internet in SA, I make sure I get my monies worth.

Likewise, which is why I use and recommend MWEB.

Just because their thresholds may not appeal to you, as a user in the smallest ±1 - 5% percentile of internet users in SA, does not make them a bad ISP. Move along if they're not appealing to you.

That said, my internet has been slow yesterday. Netflix buffered, and I am not throttled. But my other accounts were also slow, so I guess it is not an MWEB thing, but nowhere is all sunshine and roses.
 
Well, tested a CW account yesterday and it performed exactly the same as by MWEB account. At R325 for a 120GB capped account + R425 for line rental, it works out more expensive than my 10Mbps 75Gb + 75GB MWEB capped acount. No point to even consider a move.

The only difference between the two accounts was that the CW had a lower Ping by 2MS.
 
Mweb should just call them capped accounts & reflect the thresholds. Uncapped is a fiction

Yeah they tossed in the "Unlimited" term after they messed up the uncapped product. I'm sure the uncapped of nowadays is not what it was meant to be when it started out
