It's storming like crazy in Cape Town

25mm of rain in Stellenbosch overnight

And it's still raining. And finally cooling down. I really love this weather and wouldn't mind if it rains like this non stop for the next week or two.

The wind is driving me crazy. It has been hectic since last night.

Can you provide any tips while driving under extremely windy conditions?

Don't drive VW beetle!

If you don't like the wind, don't live in Cape Town or PE.

Those are not storm clouds. It's just the mist/fog that comes in sometimes from the ocean.

So it's hailing in the Southern Suburbs... I didn't even know that happened here...

Only babies, 5-6mm across but still...

Any sufficiently large convective cloud can produce hail. In Cape Town that tends to be in the tail of a cold-front (like today), where a trough of cold upper air produces instability (surface temperatures are low). This is the opposite of the summer rainfall area, where surface heating produces the instability.

P.S. We had a few seconds of slush in Kenilworth. Light snow is possible on the highest mountains in the SW-Cape (quite late in the spring season).

Cool. It was just surprising and my first time seeing hail here. I suppose it would be most likely here on the leeward side of the mountain too with the added orographic lift.
