Just bought the ring...

Just paid for the ring.
Platinum solitaire setting with an emerald cut. 1ct, F, VVS2
Ratio of 1.51. Table is 61%, Dept is 60.4%
IGI report looks pretty good.
I chose lab-grown because I don't feel mined diamonds are worth it, and because I could get a larger stone for my budget. Its a Chemical Vapor Deposition grown diamond. Type IIa
Pretty excited for it. So now I just have to wait the 4 weeks to get it made. Thankfully I am only proposing in late Dec, so there is no rush (but not telling the jewller that).
So 11 years ago, when I proposed, I spent roughly R8k for a white-gold, natural (albeit small) diamond ring. At that time, it was a hell of a lot of money for me, but we were crazy and in love.

Needless to say, 2 years later we gave it back as stones were falling out, rhodium was wearing off etc.
My wife has had no ring ever since (except a smaller, cheapish engagement ring).

Last year, on our 10 year anniversary, I decided to finally replace it.

Same ring as above, was now R15k.

I eventually decided on a custom made silver ring (used an old photo, and had the jeweler replicate the original), with a cubic zirconia (R2.5k), my wife is not fussy anymore, after realising what a scam rings are (and jewelry in general).

She loves the new ring, is not too stressed about damaging or losing it, and the bonus is that her works colleagues think it is a real diamond, and she plays along and says that it is.

Long story, after the novelty wears off, the expensive ring is nothing more than a facade. If you can afford it, by all means, go for it, if not, then a good old el' cheapo will do just fine..

Oh, and good luck!

Lol people still fall for this.
Fall for what? For this stupid little video?

Only poor, cheapskate people endorse this video.

Just because buying a nice ring for your wife will make YOU broke, doesn't mean that others cannot easily afford it.

Work harder...stop being poor and miserable.

Work smarter, not harder.

Congratulations, I remember that feeling even though it was so long ago. Have you decided on how you're going to propose?

Hopefully it's summer in December wherever you live? Then you can do it on a beach somewhere

We aren't beach people. Found a nice little garden in Hillcrest and got a photographer who will be pretending to be there to photograph the birds.
But I am not set on the idea... We will be in Amanzimtoti.

The ring arrived via Royal Mail Special Delivery yesterday.
Packaging was spectacular.
Went down to a local jeweller to get the serial number on the stone checked and it matches the certificate.
So I'm a happy man.

They even include a valuation letter for the insurance. 20231013_160641.jpg20231013_160657.jpg20231013_160705.jpg20231013_160712.jpg

Well congrats and well done.

I wouldve gone for mined and not lab grown. And you will hate me for this part.

Marriages is supposed to be forever. Diamonds that came mined took millions of years to be created, thus its more symbolic than a lab grown diamond that took a week to be grown. Its about the symbolism of forever.

Quite honestly though I would suggest just get a surrogate for kids and skip marriage. Its a business transaction. And even with an Antenuptial or Out of Community Contract, she is entitled to half. Yip they threw out the Out of Community clause as unconstitutional. Also she will be allowed half your pension plus 15% interest per year (yip she can pocket your entire pension) So think first, if its worth it.

That's why you get married out of community of property. Don't let emotions cloud the smart decision.

Congrats.
Out of Community still exist, but a judge can still give her half. Sadly thats been marked unconstitutional.

Also he will have to pay her maintenance....for the rest of her life if he divorces.

Are you in the UK or where are you? There is only one jeweller I trust in Platinum. They are in Cape Town. Best there is. And yes they manufacture
