@lantic R59 uncapped 'bolt-on' feedback

I think mine is already set like that, thanks! I will test it out sometime and see whether it really does cap me or not - just to be sure :D

Yeah it should cap you for daytime use only if you have the bolt on. Then come 6pm your internet should start working again.

You are looking for this setting in the control panel. I have a fatpipe and g4g account so I know it works with both accounts.

I understand it differently. The Gig4Gig has a base cap of 10GB so it will get to that before being capped. That additional cap is anything above 10GB.

Be careful.

My gig4gig account default is definitely not 10GB. When I got it, adjustable cap was set to 0 by default.

Exactly, mine too. So if they say default is 10GB while the control panel says Additional Cap is 0GB, this makes me think that Additional Cap is anything above the default of 10GB.

I think they changed it sometime. I asked the salesperson when I got the account and they confirmed you have 1 GB and after that you have to request additional cap. It does not happen automatically.

In spite of what the vox architect says, there is definitely a vox/MyBB issue.

AfricanTech -- The next time that you run into a problem surfing to MyBB or resolving it, run a trace route and publish the details.

The last review of this showed that the problem was not on the Vox network. Are you in Cape Town, where the IPC problem exists?

Chris

As discussed a few times, they will be until the IPC upgrade is in place. We are waiting for Telkom to upgrade it as we have requested.

Chris

That's good to know, one less thing to worry about.

Just keeping you guys on your toes :)

@efitol yeah I was on gig4gig with uncapped bolt on before and they cap you after your first gig if you have the Additional Cap set to 0. By default it was on 0 for me. I got capped then increased it to 1 and restarted the connection and I was no longer capped. They just added a R15 for x 1GB additional data on gig4gig package and I got capped again after I used that gig.

So its a very nice tool that allows you to determine if you want to use a bit of extra data or not.

I have pfSense set up to automatically switch accounts at 6am and 6pm and I occasionally check the control panel to make sure that all is still well (I blame Vodacon and the infamous OOB Shark)... So this is awesome to know, no more checking usage for me :D.

Yeah I do my reconnects scripted from a Mikrotik. Amazing little piece of hardware instead of running a pc with pfsense on it.

Cool you can also try it out by forcing it to be capped because if you have the uncapped bolt on linked to you gig4gig package the internet will automatically start working again 6pm and be capped again 6am.

pfSense was just a geekscuse to repurpose my gaming PC. It's now a virtual host running Esxi 5.5 and 3 virtual guests :D.

Haha, I'm doing the same with my downloads PC.

An excuse to make better use of it, plus PfSense is friggen kickass! Also fun to just play around with this stuff :P

I also have a fileserver running VMs with all kinds of cool stuff, but I still prefer my network access via a Mikrotik. I can turn off the server, or if something goes wrong, I still have full internet access with everything automated the way I like it.

Fair enough, each to their own.

How much does a decent Mikrotik router / setup cost?

I'd imagine in case of a power failure you'd be back up and online a lot sooner than with a PC and VM's.

Definitely back online faster, as well the best feature I have is, my mikrotik and adsl-router is on their own dedicated 650va UPS, which can power them for 4-5 hours. So as long as the Telkom line is online during a power outage, I can be online with a laptop, tablet or phone.

As for the cost, depends on what you want from it.

R475 ex vat - RB9512 has 5x 100Mbps lan ports and 1x WiFi port so it can be your WiFi AP and basic switch.
R825 ex vat - RB 951G2 has 5x 1000Mbps lan ports and 1x WiFi port so it can be your WiFi AP and gig switch.

The only RB I wish will come out some day, is one with a built-in ADSL modem, so that I don't also need an ADSL/VDSL router in bridge mode.

A separate device for a firewall is always the better option imo.

VMs don't always play along nicely with these firewall distros.

There is definitely something wrong with MyBB on these Vox accounts. I don't know where the fault is exactly but seeing as it only affects my Vox account I would expect them to investigate and resolve the issue.

I'm routing all my MyBB traffic over my Telkom connection now but I checked the ads weren't loading and went to investigate. I see that the ads are getting served by ox.mybroadband.co.za which I haven't routed through Telkom and all my ads are not displaying.

Pretty convoluted way to block ads though :D
