LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

I had a good look at the PA60H5000 Plasma today, it's a good bang for your buck display no doubt. But i think i will wait it out for the 4k Oled tv's to drop in price.
If there was some more high end plasmas about, the decision would have been a no brainer.

Still sad i didn't take it though..
 
5 series were never great, not plasma, not lcd.
You would have to be a plasma fanboi to choose a series 5 plasma over a 8 or 9 series lcd.
Old postmanpot will tell you a hisense plasma is better than a series 9 lcd.

I took the plunge and got the PA60H5000 as you recommended Postman, and I'm really really glad i did!

Viewing these Plasmas in store DOES NOT do them any justice, this plasma blows the UA55HU8500 (which is the UE55HU7500 abroad) out of the water with picture quality and motion, not to mention viewing angles. And all for a great price of under 10k for a 60", it's a steal!

If there are any doubts, kindly refer to avforums.com there are loads of owners threads for this tv set.
It shares the same panel as the PN60F5300B apparently.

Thanks Postman for rooting for Plasma all this time, you certainly only miss something once you have lost it.

I got mine from House & Home and they have less than 100 left nationally

Thanks for the positive feedback. As I've begun resting my case on these undeniable facts for quite some time now, it's a pity that plasma too has been forced into resting its own case. A great tragedy for consumers around the world. Who have been so brainwashed that they're actually doing the work for the manufacturers to keep them rich, under the impression consumers have been given a superior alternative TV technology.

What's even sadder is that you have seemingly learned folk still debating this. It just goes to show what they really know. Yet what they say resonates with every fool who has judged TVs in stores. A vicious cycle.

One model newer. Depends if you're selling to someone ignorant or not. Someone in the know would probably pay around R2,000. Someone who believes the LCD myth probably wouldn't want it. ;)

So you say any plasma will be leaps and bounds ahead of any LCD?
Without offending, you feel the budget plasma will easily be superior to a premium LCD?

Maybe tell him - I offered him a PA60H5000 to swap his HU8000 and he laughed at me. What I do know though, is that your and his comments totally contradict each other.

Plasma is better than LCD, it's cheaper and has superior picture quality. It has been canned in favour of an inferior technology. Part of it being canned is because consumer ignorance has been taken advantage of. The main tool of change to suit the manufacturers' pockets. Consumers have shot themselves in the foot, and acted against their own interests.

Ultimately, these are the only pertinent points. Not sure why you keep going on about x model vs y model.

There's no contradiction at all. I do believe you're reading incorrectly to suit yourself. Tag11 does not seem to be comparing the F8500 to the H5000 at all, he mentioned it because you put it to him (while you, again, were harping on about your silly points quoted above).

The very fact that there are two possibly differing opinions is already enough to show you that it not clear-cut as to how what you say would be much better, a R30,000 TV over a R10,000 TV you claim must be significantly inferior, is dead, died in 2005, etc.

I'm afraid much of your ignorant remarks have landed you in this tricky situation.

Tag11 had a Series 8 plasma and bought a Series 8 LCD. He says there are things he prefers about the plasma and things he likes about the LCD. Call the Series 8 plasma the winner, but they're fairly close. When offered a Series 5 over his Series 8 LCD, he laughed ... of course he wouldn't do that.

Now Terumo buys the Series 5 that Tag11 laughed at when offered ; and says it'll easily walk all over his 8 Series LCD. They have two opposite viewpoints on the matter. Unless you can persuade Tag11 to swap his crappy Series 8 LCD for the H5000 plasma?

Perhaps Terumo has better viewing conditions.

You're selective reading is letting you down, the TV i took back (ua55hu8500) is a rebranded ua55hu7500, which is not a premium class LCD tv but a mid range one.

Nowhere did i say this budget H5000 plasma will destroy any LCD, because frankly i don't have a top tier LCD to compare to this Plasma. But the one i had (ua55hu8500) , did lose comfortably :D

Nothing special though, 2 table lamps, one on each side of the couch. I wouldn't call it a cave :P
 
I have to be honest - first time I've ever heard of your situation.

To my knowledge Series 5 is budget, Series 6 midrange and Series 7/8 is premium. In fact the only difference between 7 and 8 in the H is the curve in 8, otherwise they're the same.

Also never heard of them rebranding different Series local and abroad. Are you sure you don't have a Samsong from the side of the road? ;)

I've yet to see a plasma be *overall* better than my Series 7, *although* in honesty I haven't seen a Premium plasma. I see screen uniformity (though seldom to I watch black screens. I tend to watch a movie or turn off the TV) and can occasionally notice motion.

That said, image retention is the absolute worst thing about plasma and the reason I sold mine. I cannot cope with even a few seconds of the previous screen. To me the trade between an uneven black screen and two merged scenes for a few seconds is well worth it.

Now, I need to find someone like you that will accept budget obsolete technology for their high end screen to swap. Tag, although he will publicly say it, will not swap :(

Ah, which plasma did you put your LCD next to in order to tell? Bwahaha. Keep telling yourself that.

The only aspect your LCD is better in is that it is less prone to image retention (a non issue). Your LCD is inferior in every other department.

You just don't know enough. You see TVs in Series/model numbers. You assumed a higher LCD Series is better than a lower plasma Series. I very much doubt you can walk into a room and immediately tell if a TV is plasma or not. People that know a lot can immediately tell, that's plasma PQ for you.

Don't worry though, most people are equally ignorant.
