Only after a solid 10 min + on the Samsung wipe pattern did the IR fade away. I checked at about 5 min and the IR was only partially gone.

So unless my TV is a complete dud (which I doubt) IR can be quite easily induced under certain conditions. I'm not saying people must run away from plasmas, they have their merits, but rather take cognisense of it when evaluating them for purposes where IR can be an issue.

Wow... I would not be happy with this either..
 
Ive had my plasma for over 1 year now and have never noticed ANY IR at all... fck all....

I burnt my tv in slowly, never let it stand on still images, ever. If the dstv was down and I had an error screen, I would turn off the tv. If I had a still image (pause) I would turn off the tv. True a plasma needs a little more tlc, but the benefits (for me) outweigh any hassle.
 
All I'll say is that My 1 year old Sammy plasma doesn't do that. I'd take that TV back for sure.

Okay so it is a B series which is normally equivalent of a series 4 Samsung
 
Hey, probably going to get the Samsung 46" es5600 today, I have a DVD player (not bluray), and HD PVR, an Xbox, and a WD Media Player to connect.

Do I need to buy HDMI cables etc.?

Well, the TV doesn't come with any so if you don't have, then yeah, you'll have to buy some.
 
Yup and if you're near cresta hd cabling is in the blackheath shopping centre good pricing on cables
 
Mmmmmm got the TV it's beautiful. Got an HDMI cable for the DSTV, but now I need to get one for the Xbox.

You have a dud, dude. I just repeated this experiment of yours on my PS51D550 and I had absolutely zero IR. Even left the static picture on for 20 minutes. When I went to my pure black image, nothing.

Dont discount that I may have a more susceptible set, but it does indicate there is a possibility of getting one like this.

One other thing I thought of is possibly a variance in settings. In my household we never watch in the dark, so I've calibrated my picture for a bright viewing environment. This requires Cell Light setting to be pegged at 18/20.

What Cell Light setting did you have when testing? Also can you confirm that Pixel Shift was disabled during your test?

Cell Light was on 11. I'll repeat the experiment with the setting on max as soon as the SU gets off the telly. Pixel Shift was indeed disabled.

You might as well post all your TV's display settings to make sure that everything is identical.

The reason why I redid your experiment is because my DSTV is paused a lot and sometimes for more than an hour (while the SU is cooking, for example) and I've never noticed any IR.

I got some image retention on my old 51D550 and I also do get some on my 51E550. No permanent burn in though, but it can last a while. Not too phased about it because there has been no permanent damage even after falling asleep for a few hours with my game on pause.
