Hi. I got the Samsung 40D550 on Sunday. I haven't done any firmware upgrades; my impression from this thread is it doesn't do much to PQ. I am struggling to find a setting that I REALLY like - can someone point me to somewhere where I can get suggestions? Also one thing that I find a bit annoying is what I can only describe as a slight colour shift as movement happens in the screen - what I mean is someone walks through a shot and there's a bit of an edge; when they stop it goes away. I see it especially on faces where dark hair meets pink skin! Is this due to my SD footage (never notoced this on CRT) or to do with LCD? (PP this is your moment I guess!). If it is due to LCD is there a plasma that I can get for the same price (R5K)? Thanks
Could be either. What source are you using? DSTV, DivX? If DivX then it may just be that peticular file. Try a few more.
The PS42D450 goes for R6400 if I'm not mistaken.

So far mostly divx but basically all the ones I've watch so far (I don't have DSTV). R6400 way more than I'm prepared to pay...
DivX movie or animation? What input are you using, PC or USB stick or DLNA? And what settings have you set the TV to? Give me some details and I will most likely be able to advise you on how you can get rid of the problem almost completely.
I have set my LA46D550 up in a way that I cannot see any of those issues whatsoever

Replies via Blackberry so short and sweet! USB or via HDMI from my USB-equipped DVD player. Don't have a long enough ethernet cable so not networked. Live action TV shows (not animation)- would be grateful for your suggestions thanks Tim182.

Sorry and settings: I've tried "movie" "natural" "standard" and adjusted backlighting down.

What TVs do 5.1 Audio Passthrough received from HDMI and outputted via the tv optical out?
I'm not sure which specific models but I think only highspec models.

ya i dont know about that. I have the LA46C750 and it doesnt do that. So anybody know the tv that do?

PS43D450 is R5,500 or less, not R6,499.

Most likely culprit is the Digital Noise Filter in Picture Options, which is set to AUTO by default. Turn if Off.
Other settings that help for me on a slightly older LA40C530 are;
Sharpness to 0 (zero)
Other Picture Options settings;
Size = Screen Fit
MPEG Noise Filter = Auto (leave it on to help with artifcating on some of the low-grade DSTV SD channels)
Film Mode = Auto2
Other Advanced Settings;
Everything to Off or 0 (zero)
Colour Space to Native

.Also, click on select input, click tools and edit name. From that list you can select a number of inputs which according to which the TV automatically adjusts its settings.
Also just try playing a normal DVD and see if you can spot any of the problems with that just to make sure its not caused by the files themselves

It was a tonque in cheek moment...but there we go. Sorry divv...didn't mean to get your hopes up. Tell you what: I'll sell it to you at cost and if you have your owns business you can claim the vat back...and maybe sell me something at cost?
