LCD and Plasma Bargains

not that complicated, you need a spirit level to get everything lined up. Also be aware its a 2 person job.

I would caution that it may even be a threesome job :-)

Seriously, it takes two people to pick up that TV securely and then the clever one to insert the coachscrews.

You apologize for going OT, yet you still go OT....
Why not start a new thread for this...

Because I figured it's a simple question that doesn't need a seperate thread, as assagai and hilton have proved above, and tbh I'm happy with the replies and we can move on with the thread.

It is really a simple question and is closely related to the Plasma's we are talking about here.

@hilton did you get your tv sorted out with the black levels etc? If so, how?
Did you try my settings? How did they work for you?

R8999 is the normal price. You've gotta be patient for the specials to come around. Audiovision have generally had the best prices on the PS42C430/1 - better than Game and Makro. Remember, if you find it cheaper, go to Game and they will match the price, with a further 10% of the difference in price as a discount.

Quite a few owners here game on the PS50C430 with Xbox and I'm quite sure they say it's better than LCDs they've gamed on. I suppose if you're willing to take a bit of a resolution knock (we're used to high resolution in PC games) down to the 1366x768 of the PS50C430 then PC gaming will be as good, granted there is little input lag via PC. Your viewing distance for a 50" would probably quite a bit further than 32"/37"/42", so the lower resolution probably won't be a problem.

Can anyone comment on PS50C430 and PC input lag? Don't go and get image burn-in now... :D

Seriously, the TV really is worth R8999. :D

I have the PS50C430 and am very happy with it. XBox is awesome, only bummer is the only PC input is VGA so best use the HDMI option as there is no DVI.

Haven;t used the PC/Laptop on it so I can't comment on the lag. Sorry

I waited for a special at Makro at R7999 then went to Game who had it at R10999 and they bettered Makros price by R300 so I got it for a very nice R7699.

My LA40C530 seems to have gone from bad to worse, brightness is down to 40 and bleeding worse than a criminal about to be neclaced.

I put in a new plasma stand yesterday and I can just picture that lovely PS50C450 sitting on it :D

I would've bought the 450 if I'd known about it having the extra HDMI port. Now I need to upgrade my amp to HDMI. Blessing in disguise I think.

lol, nice excuse to buy it.

Wife said she expected me to walk in the door with the 50" this evening. :D

I tried your settings along with countless others but I still could not get the brightness up to a decent level. I was even about to send my 50C550 in for repairs because for the love of money I could not get the brightness set properly. Every source bar HD sport was just too dark. I ran that Monster calibration disk (with the porn star look-a-like) and during the "Is your black black enough" part I could not even see the black X nor distinguish the man's shirt from his suit.

After countless hours of online research it seems Samsung reversed the HDMI black levels in the normal menu. Mine was set to 'normal' but it was greyed out so I couldn't change it. Then I discovered that this is a 'feature' and can only be changed when connected to RGB sources! Go figure.

Anyway, unplugged the HDMI from my AVR, plugged in a DVD with RGB straight into the TV, went into the settings and the HDMI black level was still greyed out.

Plugged the HDMI cable back in and suddenly the setting was available for me to change. I set it to low and immediately the brightness was there to adjust. The calibration disk ran through fine.

I then watched something else on 720p HD PVR and then wanted to check the settings again. It's greyed out again but the brightness issue has gone away. So the set sort of 'corrected' itself somehow.

Was/is this a bug?

Anyone else experience this.

So I bit the bullet and got the PS50C450 from Cats :D

Now just to figure out how to tell the wife :p

Guys, the guy at cats told me I must leave all the settings as is for the first 50 hours of viewing.

I know there is a break in process, but wasn't sure what settings to use, he seemed to think the ones out the box.
